Area People Director

 

Work Environment

 

 

The purpose of the Area People Director is to support the AVP in the management, hiring, training, recruitment, and retention of hourly and management employees. Area People Directors manage Human Resource Specialists and Unit Training Coordinators. The APD will spend 80% of the time in the field and 20% in the corporate office or their home office. Field locations include, Waffle House restaurants and local community businesses, organizations, retail establishments, schools, colleges, etc. Specific work hours will be determined by the needs of the area that the APD is assigned to support. The APD will report to either an AVP or SVP depending on market geographic needs with accountability through the VP of People Department.

 

 

 

 

Major Job Responsibilities & Tasks

 

 

Recruitment/Hiring: Develop recruitment programs that promote employment opportunities and diversity at Waffle House. Develop recruitment strategies that achieve required staffing levels. Prepare weekly analysis on staffing. Identify recruitment sources. Develop and maintain professional relationships with local schools, colleges and organizations as a source to generate qualified applicants. Attend job/career fairs to generate qualified applicants. Provide information on company operations and job opportunities to potential applicants.   Screens and refers qualified applicants to Operations. Analyze information provided on a prospective employee’s application form, conduct personal interview. Determine suitability of applicant for employment. Completes hiring for success packages on all applicable applicants. Maintains records on recruitment efforts as required. Participates in budgeting process.

 

Training: Manages various training programs for hourly associates, manager trainees and unit managers such as Certified Training, Manager Trainee Day Program, preparing manager trainees for WHU, etc. Identifies training needs for hourly associates, unit managers, manager trainees. Implements effective follow-up training programs.

 

Retention: Develop and implement programs such as recognition initiatives to increase the retention of unit managers and hourly associates.   Coordinate and direct Coach’s Clinics, LDS, New Comers Club Meeting, TOPS, etc. Evaluate and track effectiveness of programs.

 

Managing: Train, direct, discipline, interview, hire, and develop human resources specialists and unit training coordinators. Make recommendations to Operations Management on the hiring and disciplining of hourly associates and managers. Coordinate LOA requests.
