Position Description: Director of Culture and People

 

Company Description: In 2017, Alon Shaya formed Pomegranate Hospitality to create a space where meaningful, lasting relationships are created, community engagement prospers, and cultural differences are celebrated. Pomegranate Hospitality hopes to foster opportunities for colleagues, partners, and friends encouraging all our stakeholders to achieve their personal and professional goals. In March 2018, Alon will publish his debut cookbook, “Shaya: An Odyssey of Food, My Journey Back to Israel” and travel throughout the United States on a book tour. Additionally, Pomegranate Hospitality works closely with the Shaya Barnett Foundation, which provides culinary education and resources to high school students.

 

Overview:  The Director of Culture and People is directly responsible for the Human Resources function of Pomegranate Hospitality, including all people and processes. This role is responsible for ensuring that Pomegranate Hospitality invests in our best assets – our people – and embraces constant improvement and innovation in recruiting, onboarding, training, developing, and supporting our team. The Director of Culture and People will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organization’s human resources functions by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations’ policies, programs, and practices. It also entails ensuring that Pomegranate Hospitality adheres to all legal and business requirements. This role is a unique opportunity for an individual interested in driving the development of a high-performing culture for a rapidly expanding, restaurant group.

 

Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Employee Development

·   Develops, implements and constantly improves upon a recruitment strategy that positions Pomegranate Hospitality to meet all hiring goals and timelines.

·   Oversees interview processes and supports other Directors to ensure the selection of high-quality candidates.

o   Provides training to management team on best practices for recruitment, hiring, and firing.

·   Works with Directors to develop onboarding and training practices to ensure new hires succeed in Pomegranate Hospitality’s workplace and within their role.

·   Works with Directors to implement a responsive talent development program that fosters a high-performing team and develops individuals for higher-level positions.

·   Develops a pipeline of internal and external talent to position Pomegranate Hospitality for continued growth and success.

o   Create relationships with higher education institutions and youth training programs.

o   Attend job fairs and organize other recruitment events as necessary.

Culture

·   Serves as the champion in developing a culture focused on mission, leadership, accountability, innovation, results, and kindness.

·   Manages employee incentive programs and team-based activities.

·   Contributes to the team by working effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds and education levels.

·   Facilitates performance management system and ensure Directors and other managers meet their employee evaluation and development commitments.  

o   Develops and manages a system to monitor disciplinary issues (e.g. tardiness).  

·   Maintains and updates Pomegranate Hospitality’s Employee Handbook.

o   Oversees policy development andadvise managers on organizational policy.

·   Conducts exit interviews to identify reasons for employee termination or resignation.

 

 

 

Compliance and Benefits Administration

·   Maintains all employee personnel files and enrolls new employees in all applicable benefit programs.

o   Communicates with employees about benefit programs.

·   Ensures employee safety, welfare, wellness, and health, including managing employee and guest accident reporting and response procedures.

·   Ensures Pomegranate Hospitality’s compliance with all federal, state and local labor, employment and benefits rules and regulations.

·   Acts as primary point of contact for all employment-related legal matters, investigations or grievances; reporting to the Founders as appropriate.

 

Experience/Skills:

Experience:

·   BA required (master’s preferred in Human Resource Management or Business Administration)

·   7-10 years work experience in the following areas:

o   Human Resources Management

o   Performance Management

o   Organizational Development

·   Hospitality experience required

Compensation: Commensurate with Experience
