We are in search of an HR Compensation & Benefits Specialist to join our team. This is a permanent opportunity with headquarters in New Berlin, within the greater Oneonta area of central upstate NY. Position requires on-site presence 3 days/week and will consider relocation assistance for the right candidate moving to the area.


As HR Compensation & Benefits Specialist you will support PMIC’s strategy and business goals with responsibility for development, oversight and administration of compensation and benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, short-term/long-term disability, worker’s compensation, life insurance, travel and accident plan, flexible spending plan, 401(k) plan and retirement plan.


Preferred Mutual offers Company sponsored health insurance, including medical, dental, vision and prescription coverage (on hire) with HSA and FSA, base, bonus, 401(k) with company match, pension, short/long-term disability, life insurance, subsidized cafeteria and business casual environment.

The ideal candidate must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of experience in analysis and administration of compensation and benefits programs

  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit programs, including but not limited to ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, SECTION 125, Workers Compensation, Medicare, OBRA, Social Security and DOL requirements

  • Commitment to succeed in a purpose-driven organization, building a great company

  • High degree of detail orientation and numeracy; high level commitment to quality work product

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, analytical capability, work closely with CEO, SVPs and others

  • Utmost level of confidentiality, dependability and trust

  • PHR, or SPHR preferred

  • CCP, or CBP preferred

  • Background in Property & Casualty Insurance or Finance, strongly preferred
