Okuma Fishing Tackle has an immediate opening for an HR Generalist in Ontario, California. Are you an expert in handling end-to-end HR activities with a focus on maintaining, enhancing and advancing the organization's human resources? Can you work with our on-going? organizational changes and help the business get the best out of our employees?

We are looking for a HR Generalist who likes interacting with managers and employees and becomes the trusted partner of both managers and employees on issues regarding employee relations, benefits, training, recruiting, affirmative action and employment equity programs.

Okuma Fishing Tackle is an international manufacturer and distributor of a variety of fishing tackle products.  Our Ontario, California warehouse is home to our North American distribution center.

As a member of our team, you will be the key person to support people managers and employees on day-to-day management of HR Operations.

What you'll be doing:

  • Partner with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations
  • Benefits administration functions
  • Managing training calendar and conducting HR training for employees
  • Develops recruiting network to hire quality talent
  • Consults with executive team members about challenging people situations
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze data and make recommendations to the management team for continuous improvement
  • Respond to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints
  • Maintain and coordinate employee recognition programs
  • Coach managers on company policies and also on approaches to effectively communicate and engage in order to increase employee engagement
  • Represent the company for any unemployment claims
  • Documentation of issues and communicating next steps to managers
  • Articulate accurately all HR policies to managers and employees
  • Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce
  • Interviews, screens and recruits job applicants to fill entry-level, professional and technical job openings.
  • Reviews applications and interviews applicants to match experience with specific job-related requirements.
  • Conducts new-hire orientation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with emphasis in business, human resources  
  • PHR, HRCI and/or SHRM Certification preferred
  • A skilled coach for both managers and employees, and can work through employee relations issues from complaint to positive resolution, coaching both manager and employee
  • Able to deliver management skill-based training to improve employee engagement and retention
  • Some recruiting experience a plus
  • Experience working with warehouse employees and other related industries a plus
  • Experience with benefits and benefits administration
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including CA Law, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers’ compensation, Medicare, COBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements
  • Pro-active communication with managers, other members of the HR team, and employees
  • Point‐of‐contact for all employee inquiries regarding compensation, benefits, and policies
  • Facilitate and standardize performance management (i.e. goal setting, monthly one‐to‐ones, and annual reviews)
  • Project and team management/leadership skills and experience. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
  • Capability of effective planning and priority setting.
  • Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Good judgment in people matters, able to listen to all sides and build bridges with managers, enabling them to develop as people leaders, and helping employees to understand their role
  • Refine and implement compensation policy
  • Work with senior management to drive and sustain cultural initiatives
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
