Al Jazeera is the most exciting 24-hour English language news channel in the world – with a growing audience in the Americas. We have an immediate opening for a Human Resources Generalist in our Washington DC Office.

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible to execute and support the processing of all procedures regarding HR recruitment and employment together with employee relations and services activities within the region. The HR Generalist manages the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource office, to include but not limited to the administration of Human Resources policies, procedures and programs; On Boarding/Orientations; Benefit Administration; Recruitment; Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS); Training and Development; Employee Relations; etc. S/he will be required to:

  • Execute and process all work relating to employment and employees' procedures and Services.
  • Administers employee benefits programs such as retirement plans; medical, dental, vision and all other major medical plans; term life insurance plans; disability programs; retirement; etc.
  • Evaluates and compares existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information.
  • Plans, develops, and/or participates in area and industry surveys. Analyzes results of surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management.
  • Develops census data and solicits insurance companies for quotations. Evaluates quotations and makes recommendations to management. Develops company cost information for new plans and makes recommendations to management concerning sharing of cost between employer and employee.
  • Install approved new plans and changes by preparing announcement material, booklets, and other media for communicating new plans to employees.
  • Conducts employee meetings and arranges for enrollment of employees in optional plans.
  • Conducts employee benefit seminars. Revises and reissues all communications material on benefits from time to time.
  • Advises and counsels management and employees on existing benefits.
  • Assure company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
  • Conduct monthly plan reconciliations and ensure premiums are paid on time.
  • Maintenance of human resources records; maintenance of enrollment, application, and claims records for all benefit plans.
  • Orient and educate new hires on company policies and procedures and organize on-site employee orientation and wellness programs.
  • Handle and respond to all AJMN Regional Center staff’s inquiries.
  • Maintain and update the AJMN Regional Center HR system and all employee data with recruitment, employees' services.
  • Prepare recruitment statistics, reports and surveys.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends for management.
  • Complete the final settlement of compensation for exiting employees.
  • Review employment contracts, performance appraisal exercise and salary administration.
  • Contact social, health offices and labor authorities for employee’s inquiries and updates as per local law.
  • Recommends policy changes to the Regional HR team - Americas.
  • Assist in the coordination efforts for bureau employee relations events.
  • Perform any other duties or projects as assigned.

 Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related fields; Minimum 3 years’ professional experience in Human Resource Administration. SHRM-CP or PHR Certification Preferred. 

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Orientation/On-boarding; Recruiting/Retention;  Benefits/Compensation Management; Employee Relations; Personnel Handbook; Interviewing; Medical Insurance Policy; HR policies and procedures; General knowledge in the media industry; Performance Evaluation Process/Implementation; Legislative Compliance (Title VII, ADA, FLSA, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, EEO); Training/Employee Development; Performance/Disciplinary Issues and Techniques; Exit Procedures; Employee Safety and Security Management.
