The Human Resources Partner will serve as the primary point of HR contact with the Museum’s Merchandising and Retail functions, providing support for Merchandising and Retail through a shared service model.  The HR Partner will serve as an integral team member of the Merchandising and Retail and HR Departments, sharing knowledge and best practices.


  • Serve as the primary point of contact for HR-related needs within the Merchandising and Retail Department on all HR-related matters.
  • Attends Departmental meetings and meets with department management on a frequent basis in order to align HR and the Department’s priorities, goals and initiatives.
  • Develops and implements programs to support the Department’s priorities, goals and initiatives and foster a more cohesive, productive and efficient environment.
  • Proactively identifies and reports on Department trends.
  • Provides informed recommendations on the Museum’s policies, systems and structure, ensuring a consistent approach to HR practices across the Department.
  • Manages recruiting, including the development of a cost effective and efficient seasonal staffing strategy.
  • Oversees the onboarding process, including the integration of new employees in partnership with managers and introducing managers to best practices in management.
  • In partnership with the Compensation team, guides the Department’s managers to effectively administer their salary/headcount budgets and develops position profiles and determine FLSA classifications.
  • Develops and administers the performance management process and identifies needs for, develops, and delivers training programs to employees.
  • Handles employee relations issues.
  • Manages leaves of absences for Department’s employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Experience and Skills:

  • Four plus years of proven human resources generalist experience in a retail environment
  • Experience developing department retail and merchandising training programs preferred
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills


Knowledge and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • SHRM or PHR experience a plus
  • Graduate degree Business, Human Resources, or a related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience with and knowledge of Federal, State, and Local compensation and employment laws required
  • Proficient use of Excel and Microsoft Office required
  • Workday experience a plus
