Human Resources is staffed with 30 employees.

Reporting to the Director, Client Services, the Human Resources Specialist 2 performs a variety of administrative and professional HR duties in support of the HR-Client Services team. Duties include: participating in general and college campus recruitment, employment outreach, onboarding, data analysis, client support, vendor payment, and employee engagement.

Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidate can consider their growth potential.

Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology, or a directly related field or, in lieu of specified degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted for the required degree that equals four (4) years in human resources.
  2. In addition, must have a minimum of four (4) years of directly related human resources experience.
  3. Good knowledge of human resources principles, policies, and practices.
  4. Good knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  5. Good knowledge of HR data and HRIS applications.
  6. Good research, analytical, and organizational skills.
  7. Good verbal and written communications skills.
  8. Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
  9. Intermediate skill using applicant tracking and data management systems.
  10. Intermediate skill using MS Office suite.
  11. Ability to work both independently and in a team orientated collaborative environment.
  12. Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  13. Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information.
