Buckeye Power is the generation and transmission cooperative jointly owned by the 25 electric distribution cooperatives serving Ohio. The company is diversifying its generation mix by acquiring additional capacity from both traditional and renewable energy sources, such as green power in the form of animal waste anaerobic biodigesters, as well as solar panels.

Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives (OREC) is the statewide trade association for the 25 independently owned and operated electric cooperatives in Ohio and one in West Virginia. 

Together, Buckeye Power and Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives work collaboratively to form Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives.

HUMAN RESOURCE GENERALIST – PLANT - The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for a full range of Human Resources duties in support for the Cardinal Plant. Serves as onsite leader for the Cardinal Plant management team in pro-actively managing bargaining unit agreement related issues; providing consultative support for staffing, compensation/benefits and other areas of HR support.

 Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide onsite support of all bargaining unit labor relations issues.  Act proactively to maintain productive and engaged work environment. Ensures Plant compliance in following management activities consistent with current bargaining unit agreement. Trains new supervisors, managers on operating within terms of bargaining unit agreement.  Manages, all union grievances for successful resolution in collaboration with appropriate management staff. 
  •  Assist with payroll processing.  Uses knowledge of payroll system, HRIS to ensure onsite processes/procedures are implemented for consistent accurate, timely delivery.  Pro-actively reviews system information, contacts appropriate staff to avoid problems with payroll and benefit processing. 
  • Provides onsite HR recruitment support in collaboration with corporate HR recruitment for candidate screening, interviewing, selection and new hire processes.
  • Manage, implement and administer effective delivery of Human Resources employee relations, benefits, wellness and other plans, programs consistent with company HR strategies.
  • Consults with, provides support to Plant Operations management team in developing and implementing appropriate Human Resources initiatives.
  • Manages onsite delivery of corporate HR initiatives, as needed. Works with other on the HR team to assist in coordinating tasks, services and provision of high quality customer support HR services.
  • Assumes lead onsite role to train appropriate Plant staff on HR policies, procedures and process flow information.
  • Supports the training and learning coordination of the Plant employees.
  • In collaboration with corporate HR staff, is responsible for tracking onsite Plant operations and staffing data needed for FMLA, ADA other compliance reporting.
  • May be required to perform other human resources duties as needed. 

Requirements

Position Requirements

Education:   Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Human Resources, Business Administration or Organizational Development.  Exceptional experience over and above that described may be substituted for part of the educational requirement.

Experience:   Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in all major area of Human Resource is required. Experience with labor relations, bargaining unit groups is required.  Experience in dealing with difficult situations,  working with diverse teams is required.                                                        

Knowledge:   Must have working knowledge of and experience in Human Resources in a variety of HR areas with documented experience in labor and employee relations, benefits, compensation enrollment and administration.  Must also have a strong current working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws.                         

Abilities and Skills:   Must be able to work as a partner in a team environment, maintain strict confidentiality, counsel employees, have excellent communication and organizational skills, be able to set priorities and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.  Must demonstrate a commitment to customer focus in work. .

Additional skills and abilities required include: the ability to demonstrate professional integrity and work ethic; the ability to successfully manage multiple projects; technical efficiency in use of HR systems. Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Windows including MS Word; Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to positively influence others.

Working Conditions:    This position is based in Brilliant, Ohio (Jefferson County).  This position is responsible for providing HR support in energy plant operations environment.  Travel to Corporate office in Columbus, Ohio is required.  Work outside normal business hours is required on occasion.
