Reporting to the Human Resources Supervisor - Mid-Atlantic, the Human Resources Coordinator - Mid-Atlantic will support Human Resources related functions for the Washington, D.C. and Charlotte offices; lead local recruiting efforts for non-exempt and exempt positions; support all recruitment activities; and provide support for all special Human Resource projects.



  • Provide support to the HR Supervisor and department to include, but not limited to, processing departmental expenses, filing, copying, scanning, faxing, distribution of documents, in-coming and out-going mail, telephones, and e-mail.
  • Utilize firm resources to recruit non-exempt and exempt staff and Review Center applicants; phone screen, interview, and evaluate candidates; refer candidates to hiring manager(s); conduct market-based salary research and work with the firm’s Compensation Specialist to propose appropriate offers to the HR Supervisor, RDOA and hiring manager; extend employment offers for positions interviewed.
  • Work with the HR recruiting team to utilize alternative recruiting sources when necessary.  Assist the HR Supervisor with maintaining employment agency relationships.
  • Support all recruitment-related activities for staff and Review Center applicants such as:  administer pre-employment tests; assist with background checks and conflicts clearances; maintain recruiting database and job requisition files; create, post and maintain all job postings; assist with maintaining all posting boards; prepare new hire paperwork; follow-up with hiring manager and other interviewers for evaluations; participate in annual affirmative action review.
  • Manage orientation and onboarding process for all new staff and Review Center hires; manage new hire paperwork process; intake of benefits information and related questions; set-up network access in coordination with IS.
  • Ensure management of new hire information in HRIS systems such as NuView, RedCarpet, and DC Government database; create and manage employee new hire files, (as well as electronic files and related payroll action activities.
  • Ensure the completion of employee eligibility verification I9 forms, maintain I9 files and destruction log.
  • Administer employee referral bonus program.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the staff 90-day evaluation process, including new hire 90-day meetings; coordinate with HR Supervisor and administrative managers as necessary. 
  • Manage all aspects of the staff employee termination process:  Create/send term email, create term benefit paperwork, schedule exit meeting for HR Supervisor, update firm database, process final check requests, and create payroll action requests.  In the absence of the HR Supervisor, the HR Coordinator will serve as back-up for the staff exit meeting.   
  • In coordination with the Chicago Benefits team assist with the process and tracking of FMLA and leave of absence requests, including workers’ compensation claims; assist with the management of the LOA process through the firm’s intranet system.
  • Organize and distribute pay checks/stubs on pay days.
  • Order and process all gifts concerning births, illnesses, deaths, etc.
  • Assist in troubleshooting benefits claims for staff and attorneys, and respond to miscellaneous benefits questions.
  • Calendar and distribute service anniversary award checks, and process Employee Recognition awards.
  • Perform ergonomic assessments for staff and attorneys; recommend solutions; coordinate with Facilities/Operations to order appropriate ergonomic equipment.
  • In coordination with the HR Supervisor and RDOA, will handle HR related events, such the Volunteer@Winston program, Winston Healthy events, Take Your Child to Work Day, toy drives, clothing drives, TED talks, EAP seminars, etc.
  • In coordination with the HR Supervisor and RDOA, handle special HR Projects, such as policy research and proposals, wage/hour law legislation implementation, WinstonWay FAQs, procedural manual updates, historical file audits.
  • Assist staff members with HR-related questions when necessary.
  •  Assist other members of the HR department on an as needed basis.



Must be specifically listed on resume in order to be considered for this position:


  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.


  • Minimum of three years of Human Resources and Recruiting experience required.



  • Knowledge of recruiting processes in a professional services environment preferred. 
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal labor laws.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys, staff and clients and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact while maintaining strict confidentiality by phone, in person, and by email.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ever-shifting priorities while maintaining composure.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and work with detailed information.
  • Ability and confidence to analyze information, make decisions and initiate action. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to use database software, spreadsheet, and word processing software and equipment to input and manipulate data and complete reports.


  • Work occasionally requires more than 35 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
