Purpose     

Assist in the design, analysis, and administration of health and welfare and retirement benefit programs.  Assist with compliance of federal and state laws, including annual compliance testing and reporting. Collaborate with internal customers and team members to ensure complete processes, accuracy in processes, and compliance. Provide ad hoc reports as needed.

 

Essential Duties

  • Assist in the design and implementation of employee benefit programs such as health plans, life insurance, disability programs, retirement plans, etc.
  • Perform research to determine the best benefit programs to align with the company's goals, philosophy and structure
  • Stay current on changing legislation that may affect employee benefits
  • Provide compliance information to assist with benefit plan updates and policy development
  • Assist with broker and vendor analysis of utilization and claims data and identity trends/issues and recommend processes for improvement and/or design changes
  • Participate in the RFP process for employee benefits vendors and partners; evaluate quotes and make recommendations
  • Analyze company costs for existing and proposed benefit plans; make recommendations 
  • Manage the annual open enrollment process
  • Administer the 401k retirement plan, including enrollments, loans and plan distributions
  • Ensure plan contracts, agreements, summary plan descriptions and plan documents are current, accurate, and distributed appropriately throughout the year
  • Oversee plan filings and other compliance requirements for benefit plans; coordinate as necessary with Director of Benefits
  • Develop and disseminate benefits/wellness communication materials
  • Provide backup to the Director of Benefits
  • Perform additional duties as requested

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus eight years’ experience in benefits administration or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CEBS and/or CBP designation preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. benefits-related laws and regulatory requirements, including FMLA, HIPAA, PPACA, and current practices and trends; additional knowledge of Canadian benefit laws preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of an integrated total rewards approach to benefits and employee wellness and knowledge of the design and administration of effective reward and recognition programs for all levels of employees
  • Strong project management, organization skills, the capability to exercise sound judgment and work well under pressure to effectively manage priorities and meet timelines and deliverables
  • Strong technical skills and experience with HRIS systems, database tools and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel; experience with Ultimate Software preferred
  • Policy and program design through conceptual thinking and solid subject matter expertise and experience
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with multiple and diverse customers in large group settings and 1-on-1 interactions
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and to work collaboratively with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems affecting benefits administration
  • Detail oriented, accurate and able to maintain confidential and private personnel data
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes with no direct authority
