Senior Employee Relations Advisor
Lebanon, New Hampshire

Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H) is seeking a Senior Employee Relations Advisor to join our team. Upon escalation from front line employee relations or upon direction from Director of HR, candidates will provide consultation/guidance to management and employee relations staff in the resolution of complex and/or highly sensitive employee relations issues, including unusual situations where precedent for resolution is unavailable. The Senior Employee Relations Advisor will seek to analyze, investigate and guide resolution in a manner that seeks to minimize legal risk to D-H and promotes the creation of a respectful workplace culture (e.g., guidance on employment law; investigations of privacy; disruptive conduct or violations of EEO policies; Code of Ethical conduct violations; termination decisions; workforce reorganization and reductions; concerted activity). 

  • Leads development, revision, and implementation and administration of HR policies and procedures and their dissemination through various employee communications.
  • Supervises and mentors front line employee relations staff.
  • Builds and sustains relationships with all levels of highly-matrixed organization
  • Provides subject matter expertise on employee relations issues, employment laws, and HR Best practice, and provides expertise on employee relations matters for particular D-H professional populations (e.g., issues unique to providers, nurses, entry level, non-provider professional staff).
  • Leads the training of grievance panelists and oversees Level 3 grievance or appeal hearings.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution through direct mediation and/or counseling employees
  • Leads and/or conducts investigations of workplace matters involving allegations of violation of EEO policies, privacy, disruptive conduct, drug diversion, Code of Ethical Conduct and other matters as necessary.   Responsible for documentation of investigation and recommending resolution activities or strategies in accordance with D-H policies, state and federal laws, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Uses Employee Relations analytics HR best practice, and knowledge of regulatory laws to identify employee relations areas for training and/or intervention and lead development of training on employee relations topics.
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory development for employee relations and disseminate information and updates as appropriate throughout D-H.
  • Provides guidance on issues related to fitness for duty investigations and questions.
  • Provides guidance to other areas of HR in compliance with employment regulations, including but not limited to AAP, EEO, and pre-employment or employment checks.  
  • Provides analysis and guidance on decisions whether to contest award of benefits and determine best for D-H representation.

Qualifications and Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Business or Human Resources, etc.) and five (5) years of applicable experience required. Master's degree or JD preferred. 
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment and have complete understanding of all personnel policies and procedures in order to assess/analyze the situation and inform management of options and recommendations.
  • Excellent reasoning and problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws.
  • Ability to relate well to all levels of organization and work in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to effectively build and sustain strong client partnerships with trust and credibility. Ability to inspire confidence and calm in face of difficult situations.
  • Ability to identify and analyze trends from a variety of data sources.
  • Ability to work in a face-paced, geographically disparate environment with a sense of drive and urgency, while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to use technology to improve workflow.
  • Flexibility to travel to different locations as needed.
