The Office of Equity and Diversity/Title IX at the University of Southern California (USC) is seeking a Senior Investigator to join this new unit. This is a unique opportunity to be on the cutting edge of policy and culture change, conducting non-traditional, high profile work. We are experiencing an exciting and progressive time at USC where a Senior Investigator can bring their knowledge, skills, and experience and grow professionally amongst daily challenges and change.

In this role, you will investigate reported incidents of conduct by staff and faculty in violation of university policy, promote accountability to university practices and policies related to all forms of professional conduct, and serve as a primary point of contact for parties and witnesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts investigations and analyzes incidents of misconduct under university policy, prepares investigative plans and timelines, and identifies and interviews parties and witnesses

  • Prepares and maintains comprehensive reports based on investigative findings and determines if university policy has been violated

  • Identifies and documents trends in conduct, accountability, and professionalism cases across campus departments and constituents

  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures

  • Develops and provides training to individuals and groups

  • Maintains awareness and knowledge of current changes within legal, regulatory, and technology environments which may impact the investigatory process

Requirements

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of directly related experience conducting investigations and management in an educational institution or large organization

  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and policies, including Title IX and Title VII

  • A fierce writer able to manage the stress of deadlines with strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, ability to work independently, and prioritization/task management skills

  • Direct involvement or familiarity in work related to investigative reporting, journalism, or law enforcement practices

  • Ability to conduct interviews and investigations as an unbiased and neutral party

  • Knowledge of complaint procedures compliant with fair process ideals

  • Experience developing and presenting educational materials

  • Demonstrated analytical capabilities

  • Requires sound judgment and skill in applying policy to solve complex problems with decisive action

  • Collaboration with colleagues to resolve case related challenges

  • Thoughtful and proactive, able to solve problems and pay attention to details

  • Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and emotional intelligence skills

  • Ability to manage and work with conflict, including meeting with individuals who may be experiencing high levels of stress

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, and balance workload

  • Ability and desire to work actively, collaboratively, and creatively as part of a team; build and maintain relationships

  • Build trust and rapport easily; strong, compassionate, and straightforward; sensitivity to university politics
