The Sr. Manager, Talent Acquisition is responsible for implementing a comprehensive talent acquisition strategy for Smithfield's Fresh and Packaged Meats divisions. Leads a team of recruiting professionals, providing overall direction and management for a full-cycle recruiting strategy, staffing best practices, systems and technology enhancements while maintaining up to date knowledge of recruiting issues, guidelines, procedures and trends within the industry as well as consumer packaged goods companies.

Influences others and builds strong relationships and networks both internally and externally, which includes outreach to schools, colleges and universities, diversity organizations, professional organizations, and other recruiting sources to ensure sourcing produces a strong and consistent diverse talent pipeline.

Enhances the visibility and reputation of Smithfield Foods in key recruiting markets and communities and continue to position the company as an excellent place to work. The Sr. Manager will promote our veterans hiring initiative and ensure the Company achieves its Smithfield 2020 veterans hiring goals

Serves as an advisor to senior leadership and enlists support from the businesses for talent attraction, networking and diversity and inclusion engagement initiatives. The Sr. Manager leverages EEO / AAP/ compliance strategies and goals to ensure EEO compliance as well as to maintain current knowledge of relevant employment laws

Develops, implements and monitors metrics to assess the overall effectiveness of initiatives and programs to support the enterprise's talent acquisition goals and objectives. Identifies, implements and monitors best practices related to staffing (e.g. e-recruiting, social media, applicant tracking systems, other recruiting activities) to increase recruiting efficiency and quality, while decreasing cycle-time to fill positions.



Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

  1. Leads the Talent Acquisition team in the recruitment, screening and interviewing of internal and external candidates for administrative, support staff, skilled trades, professional, technical, executive and management positions
  2. Works with the business to design and implement staffing plans and programs to determine the optimal mix of internal and external staffing activity in order to maximize performance for the company. Develops and implements metrics to assess the overall effectiveness of initiatives and programs to support the company's goals and objectives. Oversees the candidate tracking system and upgrades. Maintains awareness of the current and anticipated staffing needs of the company by working with HR partners and business unit managers
  3. Manages and develops effective diversity outreach programs and pipeline sources, including Veterans outreach initiatives. Fosters working relationships with external leaders, community organizations, colleges, universities and agencies as an opportunity to help identify, train and recruit qualified candidates for positions. Oversees the development and implementation of a diversity strategy while ensuring diverse slates of candidates for all Manager and Director-level positions
  4. Evaluates current state processes and identifies points for improvement. Researches benchmark processes and programs to improve operational excellence. Implements changes effectively and smoothly through strategic change management planning. Develops, deploys and manages training programs for hiring managers designed to improve recruiting and staffing efficiencies and reduce turnover. Develops and deploys training programs for recruiters in order to increase effectiveness.
  5. Responsible for recommending and managing strategic direction for the following areas: college recruiting, strategic diversity sourcing and attracting top talent. Ensures and maintains the employment brand through strategic and integrated use of collateral materials and recruiting campaign
  6. Monitors and maintains compliance with applicant tracking and other business requirements. Ensures EEO compliance. Maintains current knowledge of relevant recruiting procedures and practices in compliance with State and federal regulations.
  7. Manages ongoing and new vendor relationships with a focus on governance, issues and risk mitigation; tracks, creates, amends and updates contractual documentations; escalates and manages executive reporting and meetings with vendors' executive teams, HR leadership and Procurement to achieve and maintain accountability, compliance, SLA metrics, best practices and high-quality efficient services for external and internal clients

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 8+ year's related experience and/or training
  • M.A., M.S., or M.B.A. degree in related field (ex: HR Management), preferred
  • PHR/SPHR certification, preferred
  • Prior management experience at the “corporate” level of a large company, preferably in the Food Industry, required
  • Management and development of a large staffing function or department to include talent acquisition strategies that meet company goals and objectives, knowledge of affirmative action, and multi-state and Federal laws pertaining to hiring of employees to ensure compliance
  • Demonstrated experience working with all management levels up through the executive level resulting in exceptional customer service and client relationships
  • High energy style, flexible and adaptive, with the ability to work well at all levels in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and utilizing applicant tracking software, experience with ICCMs, a plus.
  • Experience with SAP HCM, preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must be able to travel approximately 25% of the time, at some times during the year travel could exceed 50%
