The Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC) is an integrated world-class network dedicated to employing Duke’s strengths in patient care, education and research to enhance and improve healthcare throughout North Carolina and southern Virginia. The PDC is seeking an Assistant Director of Human Resources to manage the daily operations of the human resources office and provide advisory services and guidance to management in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The successful candidate will be able to function well in a high-growth, fast-paced environment, be comfortable with ambiguous situations and will possess strong interpersonal skills necessary to build relationships with key stakeholders throughout the organization.

1. Provide a proactive, practical and valued HR perspective in partnering with leadership on the application, interpretation and implementation of Human Resources policies and practices.
2. Identify, anticipate, and respond appropriately to human resource needs across the organization primarily related but not limited to recruitment, employee relations, compliance/regulatory requirements, and performance management.
3. Oversee HR projects and provide guidance to HR team related to current initiatives and processes, employee relations issues and talent initiatives. Identify opportunities for improvement and resolves any discrepancies.
4. Consult with business unit leaders in areas such as organizational assessment, succession planning, organizational structure, and work force planning in order to strengthen overall organizational capability.
5. Define human resources training programs. Provide necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops and education sessions.
6. Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed. Maintain a strategic perspective while focusing on problem identification and solutions.
7. Protect the interests of employees and the company in accordance with Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc
8. Manage a high performance culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback and developing employees for wider responsibilities to foster professional growth and development.
9. Other duties as assigned.


  • Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations, and training and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Human Resources staff members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate and support decisions; both written & oral
  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously, with organization and accuracy
  • Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality

SHRM-SCP or SPHR preferred

- Must be able to work under time pressures in a busy office environment, be present on site during standard business hours and work outside standard hours according to business need.
- Must participate in group activities requiring interpersonal skills & cooperation and must be able to react quickly and respond immediately to emergencies.
- Must be able to handle multiple assignments, conflicting demands & priorities and maintain attention to detail over extended period of time.
- Must be continually aware of variations in changing situations and be able to move throughout office environment throughout day.
- Must be able to lift, push/pull and carry 10 lbs and must be able to reach for objects by extending arms.



Work generally requires skills, knowledge, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field.  Master’s Degree preferred

Work generally requires five years of experience sufficient to demonstrate expertise in:' Strategic Human Resources planning' Human Resources program development' Diversity and inclusiveness strategies' Analytical, project management and organizational skills
