Job Description

Career Management and Employer Engagement at the W. P. Carey School of Business is seeking an Assistant Director of Career Management who shares our passion for empowering students to identify, pursue and achieve their professional goals.  

Part of an energetic and collaborative team that works with our entire MBA student portfolio, this position will work with other committed individuals to interview candidates for admission into our programs, coach at an individual level, and build a fulsome program, including: group sessions, workshops, vendors, presentations (in-person and on-demand), and class design and delivery. Your role will be to map a career journey during the students’ time in the program that directly helps them succeed in the demanding employment marketplace.  This position will be supporting the career coaching activities for our students and working directly with our Employer Engagement team.  Our programs are highly ranked and this work directly contributes to the reputation of W. P. Carey. 

The assistant director will teach career courses, serve as an advisor to student clubs, manage employment data collection, and develop workshop and course curriculum. Additional responsibilities include: assessing trends in the employment market; performing research and interpreting career and employment data and job search information databases; developing curriculum and content; representing the department on committees and strategic projects.

 

Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Build expertise on MBA careers and job markets by engaging in independent research and participating in employer activities on and off campus.
  • Stay up-to-date on the business news, employment trends and considerations for the industries within the AD’s portfolio
  • Create, organize and facilitate career development seminars, workshops, special career topic panels and networking events that align with where the students are in their academic and career related journey.
  • Work in partnership with students to provide one-on-one and one-to-many coaching to graduate business students in the areas of career strategy, market research, networking, operational components of a job search, organizational fit, and other relevant topics.
  • Work as a partner to colleagues to design and deliver portions of career development curriculum.
  • Utilize WPC Connect to develop and manage relationships with students and promote opportunities.
  • Represent the School and/or University on various committees, organizations, boards, and councils.
  • Serve as an advisor for one or more students’ academic clubs to ensure that the reputation of the individuals, the club and W. P. Carey are preserved in these important points when students engage with the marketplace.
  • Support functional career area and industry with applicable specialized expertise.
  • Partner with appropriate student groups to assist in planning and delivering career related activities or programming that is designed to elevate the reputation of W. P. Carey students in the marketplace.
  • Drive metrics to track employment of students and alumni.  Gathers and tracks student intern and employment data, to include database management, Excel analysis and internal and external reporting
  • Work in conjunction with the entire CMEE team to define annual planning cycles that include business reviews, on-campus recruiting and other forms of engagement with our students and the marketplace.   This includes determining relevant communications channels, trends in student preferences, content delivery, dates and a tiered communication and strategic planning process for the delivery of a well prepared student to the appropriate employment channels that align with the goals of pursuing an MBA.

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field AND three years in a related area; OR, Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years experience in a related area;  OR, Nine years of progressively responsible experience in a related area; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master's degree in (business/counseling/human resources/communications) or related field
  • Experience in higher education or knowledge in relevant MBA career fields
  • Experience in career services, employer relations, human resources or similar experience in a University Relations/Recruiting capacity outside of higher education or an equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Experience in career development and/or human resources recruiting functions
  • Experience in career consulting to individuals
  • Experience in analyzing complex situations accurately and adopting effective course of action
  • Experience with program management/design and development in fast-paced environments
  • Experience in building interpersonal business relationships within and across organization lines
  • Experience in delivering presentations
  • Experience with Handshake, GradLeaders (or comparable systems), and familiarity with Zoom, Canvas, Interview Stream, etc.
  • Experience working autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills, including influence and persuasion
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, data query, PowerPoint)
