The University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Kentucky is currently seeking a Benefits Coordinator to assist employees with benefits enrollment and questions, maintain employee database and files, generate and analyze ad-hoc reports, and assist with payroll processing.

Responsibilities:

  1. Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 403(b) retirement, and employee leave of absences (FMLA).
  2. Conduct benefits orientations and explain benefits self-enrollment system. 
  3. Maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefits changes are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction.
  4. Assist employees with health, dental, life and other related benefit claims.
  5. Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
  6. Administer COBRA with assistance from the vendor.
  7. Review and respond to unemployment claims with appropriate documentation. Review quarterly unemployment statements.
  8. Coordinate workers' compensation claims with third-party administrator. Follow up on claims.
  9. Assist HR director in obtaining statistics and information in renewal process of any health, life and retirement plans that benefit the company.
  10. Prepare and set up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs. Ensure distribution of required employee notices.
  11. Prepare and maintain biweekly employee reports, new-hire and absentee reports. Maintain and update company organizational charts, phone directory and other requested reports as needed.
  12. Assist HR director in completing benefits reporting requirements.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Relationships:

Position requires daily contact with co-workers, supervisor, employees of the institution, as well as vendors in order to answer questions, obtain quotes and make sure paperwork is completed. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, fax, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is minimal, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in human resources or related field.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) is preferred. Willingness to obtain within one year is expected.
  • Two to four years of experience in benefits administration or related field.
