Position summary: Coordinate all of the employee benefit programs for the College.

General purpose: The Benefits Specialist will manage and maintain MICA’s benefits plans. The duties would include assisting and providing employees answers to various benefit related questions, and compliance on all benefits programs.

Summary of Essential Functions:
• Maintain all benefit programs to ensure compliance with stated rules and laws.
• Communicate accurate benefit related information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Implement and coordinate benefits programs
• Manage the integrity, accuracy, and confidentially of the benefits data
• Manage relationships with brokers and benefit contacts
• Manage the 403(b) retirement plan including all compliance and audit related materials
• Respond to 403(b) inquiries from employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manage the annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
• Primary contact for annual retirement audit
• Manage new hire benefit enrollment and employee benefit changes
• Manage annual open enrollment process including coordination with brokers, communications and benefit fair
• Research and respond to complex benefit related questions and inquiries
• Respond to 403(b) inquiries from employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manage the annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
• Promote benefits through different mediums such as newsletters, trainings, presentations, social media, etc.
• Stay current and ensure compliance with changing federal and state regulations and legislation that may affect employee benefits
• Review benefits plans to ensure offerings are equitable and competitive
• Develop, implement and manage College wellness program
• Perform quality checks of all benefit related data
• Process Tuition Remission and Tuition Exchange program
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of general Human Resources and benefits specific professional guidelines, practices, and employment laws and regulations
• Professional-level skills and demonstrated success within Human Resources
• Knowledge of legal and regulatory environment related to Human Resources and benefits
• Understanding of the business, operational, and organizational issues of the College, academic departments, and administrative offices
• Skills in effectively communicating with a variety of audiences. Ability to present information effectively and persuasively
• Demonstrated success in working with a variety of individuals and groups to reach resolutions
• Ability to identify and analyze an idea, situation, or problem using logical reasoning and knowledge of institution and own area that result in appropriate and practical solutions for faculty, administration, and staff
• Ability to draw on appropriate information from a variety of resources to help define the client problem and ability to identify data/information needs based on the situation or problem
• Ability to promote cooperation, collaboration, and partnerships between individuals or groups, both inside and outside the institution
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to enter data accurately
• Ability to reconcile complex reports

Requirements

Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Proven HR benefit administration experience

Preferred Qualifications:
• PHR or SHRM-CP Certification
• Benefit plan experience or insurance knowledge
• Experience working in Higher Education
• PeopleSoft/Oracle experience

Conditions of Employment:
• Candidate must successfully complete a full background check
