One of the nation’s leading providers of integrated health care, housing, and supportive services to homeless and at-risk families and individuals seeks an experienced, entrepreneurial and visionary individual to lead and direct innovative programming to achieve its mission of creating lasting solutions to homelessness while supporting and sustaining current programming.

Founded in 1984, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless works towards the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions to homelessness through an integrated network of health centers, supportive housing sites, and clinical services for Colorado’s homeless and underserved individuals, families and children.

Through its nationally recognized Stout Street Health Center, four satellite health centers, nineteen supportive housing sites, assertive community treatment teams, family support services programs, residential service programs, child care and employment services, the Coalition serves more than 15,000 unique patients and clients throughout the state, with a focus on Metro Denver. The Coalition has developed a unique model of integrated healthcare then incorporates primary care, behavioral health, with mental health and substance treatment specialties, dental, vision and pharmacy services provided through integrated, team-based care.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) the Coalition receives funding from HRSA and has benefited from expanded eligibility of Medicaid for its patient population. As a developer and operator of supportive housing, the Coalition receives multiple grants from HUD, SAMHSA, and State and local government to support its housing and services. These grants are supplemented by significant support from donations from individuals, foundations, and companies in the community.

As a member of Executive leadership, the Chief Human Resources Officer is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategies in coordination with the Executive Team to meet the Coalition’s strategic goal of developing a highly trained, equipped and engaged workforce. The Chief Human Resources Officer serves as a leader of the human resources team and strategic partner with departments, programs, and staff throughout the organization to build and sustain a culture and environment which promotes quality outcomes, diversity and inclusion, cultural competency, trauma-informed care, and that enables all staff to effectively participate in achieving the Coalition’s CCH’s mission. This position is located at 2111 Champa St., Denver, CO 80205 and reports to the President and CEO.

Essential Job Functions

  1. In partnership with CEO and Executive Team, leads a team of professionals to strategize, plan, develop, establish, implement, and administer all workforce management related functions at the organization.
  2. Leads and collaborates with individuals from all levels of the Coalition to define and foster an organizational culture rooted in its Philosophy of Service, ensuring business sustainability, and building and leveraging workforce development and capacity to fulfill the Coalition’s mission.
  3. Establishes and fosters best practices and programs in the following areas:
    1. Staff recruitment and retention
    2. Compensation administration
    3. Benefits administration
    4. Employee relations
    5. Employee engagement
    6. Employee training and development
    7. Management and leadership development
    8. Risk management
    9. Workforce-related compliance
    10. Performance management
    11. Organizational development
    12. HR technology
  4. Leads, coordinates and manages organizational initiatives to address cultural competency, diversity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care.
  5. Conducts gap analyses in the areas listed above and makes appropriate recommendations.
  6. Anticipates and prepares for emerging trends in the workforce.
  7. Identifies and tracks appropriate HR/Workforce quality improvement metrics and makes regular reports to leadership.
  8. Coordinates legal matters related to human resources and personnel, working with legal counsel as needed.
  9. Performs other duties as required.


  1. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of 15 years’ progressive HR experience.
  3. HRCI, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  4. Experience providing strategic and operational direction required.
  5. Nonprofit management/leadership experience preferred.
  6. Management/Leadership experience in healthcare and/or human services environment preferred.

  • A good listener and strategist; comfortable receiving input from many sources, and able to analyze and formulate disparate information into a sound, well-organized plan;
  • A charismatic communicator, able to build enthusiasm for CCH, its advocacy, policy positions, and programs; exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • A hard worker with a high energy level; a “doer” with a willingness to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of programmatic and advocacy activities;
  • Emotionally mature with a very good sense of humor and the flexibility and sensitivity to work with diverse personalities and situations.
