Who are we?

Calm Downs is an exciting new company practicing social enterprise and business development under the motto “Capital for Liberation”. We have invested in companies employing strategies that seek to address structural inequalities, such as redlining, that are socially conscious and that contribute to the common good of our communities. Current developments include an allied community art space with a bodhisattva mission called Flatirons Political Art, as well as forays into journalism, strategic communications, and film production.

What will the Chief People & Culture Officer do? Major responsibilities include:

The Chief People & Culture Officer will manage and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, leave management, employee relations, performance management, organizational development, and enforcing company policies and practices.

  • Partners with the Principal Partner to understand and execute the organization’s human resources and talent strategy, particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Provides support and guidance to the organization when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing including sexual harassment, and terminations.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring and onboarding of qualified job applicants; collaborates with the Principal Partner and departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent. Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurance, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Manages payroll administration for the organization in collaboration with the finance department.
  • Leads diversity and inclusion efforts throughout the organization.
  • Partners with the Principal Partner to lead organizational development and culture initiatives.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Google GSuite, Microsoft Office or related software. Must possess strong social media and technology skills.

 You should also have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field required.
  • A minimum of three years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • Experience working as a Human Resources department of one is desired but not required.

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR certification is highly desired.

Salary range: $61,000 - $90,000. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience, skills, knowledge and abilities.
