Position Summary:

The Community Inclusion Manager will provide at-a-distance and in-person guidance and support to develop culturally competent volunteers who are able to embrace, embody, and apply the core principles and practices of diversity, equity and inclusion critical to achieving our mission. The Community Inclusion Manager’s primary role is to ensure that HRC’s board of governors, DEI liaisons and other steering committee volunteers have the strategic direction, guidance and support needed to meet the diversity, equity and inclusion and engagement goals of the organization.

Reporting to the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, this self-motivated, results-oriented individual will serve as an integral member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) department while also coordinating with other volunteer-facing staff. 

 

 Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct guidance, onboarding and ongoing support to HRC’s steering committee volunteers to develop and implement clearly defined DEI programs, strategies, and action plans that support the organization’s DEI strategic plan.
  • Coordinate and support HRC’s National Board of Governors diversity, equity & inclusion Co-chairs and DEI liaisons.
  • Manage volunteer-based DEI programs, e.g. Transgender Day of Remembrance, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
  • Work with other internal teams to provide support around the development, execution and tracking of progress towards achieving annual goals for each steering committee.
  • Prepare, edit, adapt and deliver engaging/effective trainings and materials for in-person, online and recorded trainings and discussions for individual and group learning on a wide variety of diversity, equity and inclusion topics to support volunteers in their work and enabling them to better support HRC’s programs/initiatives.
  • Inspire volunteers to achieve new levels of DEI expertise, confidence, and productivity.
  • Keep abreast of HRC’s climate by regularly communicating with relevant stakeholders.
  • Represent HRC at various community, civic, and professional meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Help prepare periodic reports to senior HRC leaders.
  • Provide organizational support to implement internal DEI goals.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) and minimum three years related experience. 
  • Foundational knowledge about racial and gender justice issues, and inclusion concepts like intersectionality required.
  • Knowledgeable and personally passionate about and committed to LGBTQ equality, HRC’s mission and volunteerism.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency across multiple communities. Experience working within underrepresented/marginalized, especially transgender, communities is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with public speaking, facilitation and training & development of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Ability to inspire and influence individuals and teams, both one-on-one and in group settings, to be motivated and achieve challenging goals.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented, goal-driven and confirmed ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with a positive attitude, meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced, highly-collaborative environment.
  • High emotional intelligence and demonstrated ability to understand complex and nuanced situations, anticipate needs, negotiate through conflict and proactively communicate.
  • Strong project management and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, strong professional ethics and business acumen are required.
  • Ability to effectively work across a wide variety of constituency groups (including volunteers and donors) and organize support for goals and plans.
  • Ability to function with a high level of independence and to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent judgment, political sensitivity and the ability to act collaboratively and discreetly.
  • Excellent active listening skills.
  • Exceptional time-management skills, work ethic and ability to work under tight deadlines and multi-task.
  • Ability to create and maintain relationships with national and local LGBTQ groups and organizations from all communities.
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access, Google Apps, Project and other applications, including web-based tools
  • This position requires a willingness, ability and flexibility to regularly work hours that vary from standard office hours, including weekends and evenings to support events and meetings. Travel is required, including weekends.

 

All positions at the Human Rights Campaign may require travel on a regular basis or periodically.  Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
