Where You Will Work

Located in Boulder, Colorado, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) serves and participates in a collaborative community of researchers and educators who are dedicated to understanding the atmosphere -- the air around us -- and the complex processes that make up the Earth system, from the ocean floor to the Sun’s core. We manage the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) on behalf of the National Science Foundation and the university community.

 

What You Will Do

Under general direction from the Compensation Manager, performs compensation activities to develop and administer compensation programs.  Conducts research, analyzes data, and makes recommendations on compensation for use in determining equitable compensation. 

 

Job Evaluation/Compensation:

  • Analyzes and audits job content for appropriate classification and ensures consistency. Reviews position descriptions for new requisitions and for reclassifications. Works closely with Administrators/Managers to create accurate job descriptions. Makes salary recommendations for reclassifications. 
  • Ensures equitable compensation within the organization.
  • Responsible for position description refinements to prepare for and maintain within the Human Capital Management system.

 

Communication:

  • Provides information to staff on UCAR pay practices and compensation processes.
  • Develops and revises content for a comprehensive compensation website.
  • Documents processes and recommends process changes.
  • Develops communication for compensation topics

 

Serves on committees:

  • Serves as the HR committee member on Project Scientist assessments. Partners with the Lab/Program in determining salary.
  • Leads or co-leads committees reviewing and revising job matrices. This may require conducting ad hoc surveys, compiling data and evaluating impacts.

 

Reporting and Research

  • Researches and provides compensation related data reports. Produces analytical reporting related to compensation and other employment activity.  Submits federally required reporting. 
  • Researches best practices and produces trends and projections.
  • Leads the preparation for the Affirmative Action Plan data request for external attorney. Finalizes report by analyzing return reports, notify problem areas to Compensation Managers.  Gathers information from subject matter expertise to compose the narrative reports.  Works with Talent Acquisitions on annual goal areas.

 

Salary Planning:

  • Participates in the planning and administration of the annual salary increase project.
  • Documents established IT requirements and tests the salary increase module.
  • Responsible for running reports out of HRIS and sql reports for accuracy and analyzing of data.
  • Reviews final merit increase reports and presentations for accuracy.

Requirements

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least three years of experience in Human Resources Compensation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of compensation systems, including job evaluation and analysis, salary administration, and quantitative analysis for compensation planning.
  • Advanced skill in spreadsheets and databases.
  • Working knowledge in HRIS, sql statements and reports.
  • Familiar with compensation related technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of position description job content.
  • Knowledge of current state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Strong research skills and ability to stay current with industry standards and best practices.
  • Advanced skill in compiling, researching, analyzing and interpreting statistical information. 
  • Advanced skill in analyzing job and occupational components.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective interpersonal and working relationships.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume environment, prioritize work and meet stated deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of personnel data.
  • Basic knowledge of website maintenance.

 

Desired Skills

  • Certified Compensation Professional
  • Familiarity with Office of Contract Compliance Programs and federal reporting.
  • Experience in Human Capital Management implementation or transition
