Director, HR and Labor Relations

Directs HR team at the Fort Dodge site including labor relations program of organization. To provide consultative leadership on business challenges and associated people and organizational implications.  Productively challenge the status quo and voice innovative observations, questions and ideas.  

  •  Be an active member of the Plant Leadership Team responsible for driving strategic initiatives that support site and overall business goals.
  • Oversee and guide HR team members in support of site and overall business strategic efforts.
  • Provide consultation to leaders in achieving business goals. Advise and guide management on organizational effectiveness, especially the alignment of processes, systems within the guidelines of the labor contract.
  • Monitors implementation of policies concerning wages, hours, and working conditions, to ensure compliance.
  • Prepares and presents statistical reports related to headcount, retention, budget, recruitment and labor management efforts.
  • Analyzes collective bargaining agreement to develop interpretation of intent, spirit, and terms of contract.  Advises management and union officials in development, application, and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices.
  • Functions as chief negotiator in Labor Contract negotiations and escalation step for contractual matters. Escalates and educates appropriate leadership on Union related matters.
  • Develop strategies and proposals with site leadership and talent acquisition to ensure the hiring of talent to meet business needs.
  • Manage budgetary responsibilities for HR activities including site wellness and engagement activities.
  • Serve as a link between off-site HR network and local site management on strategic objectives

Requires management of budgets for projects or significant programs. Stays abreast of new regulatory and policy developments and plays a direct role in influencing strategies. Identified long and short term customer, competitive and environmental trends.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR Management, Labor Relations or similar discipline required.
  • 2+ years’ experience in union and labor management relations required.
  • 6+ years Human Resources generalist required.  Experience in a directly related field, such as communications or change management may be considered in lieu of Human Resources requirement.
