Reporting to the President and Executive Director, the Director of Human Resources (Director) manages all aspects of the human resource function. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director develops short and long-term strategy for benefits administration, organizational development and effectiveness, compensation, employment policies and staffing. The Director oversees all benefits to ensure accuracy, legal compliance and cost effectiveness. S/he works closely with other staff in all aspects of human resources, including directing the Museum's Volunteer and Safety programs. The Director will serve as a member of the Benefits Committee, planning and preparing the appropriate materials for the committee meetings. S/he will also serve as a liaison to the Chairperson of the Board Compensation Committee.

S/he will direct the recruitment and hiring of a diverse staff, partnering with management staff to make hiring recommendations. S/he will maintain a new employee orientation program and HR policies, including those for supervisory staff, and oversee the upkeep of the employee handbook for accuracy and legal compliance. S/he will manage the performance evaluation process, including identifying a new performance software system. A core component of the Director’s responsibilities will be to support the museum’s DEAI (diversity, equity, accessibility, inclusion) initiative.

 

S/he will conduct a comprehensive training plan that includes harassment and bias-related training for all staff, and s/he will coach management and supervisory staff on performance issues and other matters. The Director will also design organizational effectiveness initiatives; facilitate interdepartmental communication by way of department head meetings, matrix teams and other means.

 

The Director will also evaluate benefit programs for program design and cost, provide long-term competitive and affordable solutions for staff and will educate employees about benefits in partnership with the HR Manager. The Director will oversee the administration of the Museums' insurance plans, including health, life and disability. S/he will also partner with the Accounting Department to manage bid processes.

 

The Director will oversee the management and administration of the Museum's defined contribution 403(b) plan. S/he will work closely with outside vendors regarding administration of the plan and educate employees about the plan, ensuring that the Museum is compliant with federal and state regulations.

 

The Director will manage the salary administration plan, working closely with the HR Manager to benchmark salaries. S/he will assign salary grades, set and maintain salary ranges and make recommendations to the Executive Team as to yearly adjustment to the ranges. The Director will also manage the Museum's Employee Assistance Plan.

Requirements

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the executive and the leadership teams to create policies and ensure that they are administered consistently across the Museum;
  • Overseeing all aspects of the Volunteer Management Program to ensure its success and growth;
  • Overseeing all aspects of the Safety program to support and encourage the Museum’s culture of safety;
  • Supervising, coaching and mentoring the HR Manager, Volunteer Program Administrator, Senior Manager of Safety and Security and the HR Coordinator;
  • Overseeing HRIS technology and ensuring accuracy and integrity of HR-related data;
  • Periodically conducting employee opinion surveys, conducting feedback sessions, analyzing feedback and making recommendations as to follow-up;
  • Serving as liaison with Corning Incorporated regarding benefits and other human resource matters;
  • Serving on the leadership team and as chairperson or member of matrix teams as appropriate;
  • Maintaining all personnel files and related records in accordance with applicable labor laws; and
  • Coaching all levels of staff on performance issues and other matters;
  • Managing the Museum’s Employee Assistance Plan;
  • Serving as senior HR support to the Rockwell Museum, a sister museum in Corning.
