The Douglaston Companies are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Human Resources to join the team. The Director of Human Resources will drive the development and day to day execution of the Human Resources team.

By directing the functional areas of Human Resources, including, but not limited to, recruitment, employee records, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training and development; the director will foster an environment of team work and motive employees.

Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Human Resources will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and making recommendations to executive management for the improvement of the companies’ policies, procedures and practices impacting employee matters
  • Maintaining knowledge of industry trends, standards, and employment legislation, ensuring the companies’ compliance
  • Communicating changes in the companies’ human resources policies, procedures, benefits, and ensures compliance is followed
  • Managing 90 and annual performance review process and making recommendations for improvement
  • Assisting executive management in the administration of the companies’ compensation strategy
  • Overseeing recruitment and on-boarding processes to ensure compliance with federal and state legislation
  • Overseeing background checks process, reviews, and approves background checks and follows Fair Chance Act process when applicable
  • Conducting exit interviews and analyzing reasons or trends in separations
  • Conducting internal investigations ensuring timely response and resolution
  • Working with department managers and assisting with employee relations matters
  • Interpreting the Collective Bargaining Agreement to ensure compliance with current contract
  • Evaluating, plans and facilitating management and staff training and development for the companies
  • Maintaining and developing HRIS to achieve efficient department processes
  • Supervising staff of the Human Resources department
  • Overseeing employment law retainer and consults with legal counsel as appropriate
  • Assisting in the annual review of health and life benefit plans
  • Overseeing new hire benefit enrollment, qualifying events and open enrollment process
  • Partnering with Payroll Manager to resolve complex payroll issues
  • Maintaining executive compensation and personnel files
  • Participating on committees, special projects and seeking new responsibilities
  • Other tasks and special projects as required

 

Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • 7 to 10 years progressive human resources experience with 3 years direct supervisory experience, required
  • Experience interpreting union contracts and working with payroll, required
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology or related field, required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Human Resources Certification (SHRM or HRCI) preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in HRIS system, preferably Paycom
  • Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, training and development, wage and hour laws, and employee relations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and exercise sound judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop human resources staff
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with executive management team to lead company initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to practice a high level of confidentiality
