The Opportunity:
Colorado School of Mines is a unique public university where 1200 faculty and staff make a difference in STEM education. Mines invites applications for the Director of Human Resources (HR). Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources & Title IX Programs, the Director will assist the AVP in leading and executing key HR strategic initiatives. The Director will also provide day-to-day leadership, administration, and management of the human resource function

Essential Duties:
  • Provides day-to-day administration and management of human resources functions including talent acquisition and retention (including a large compliment of classified employees under the Colorado State Personnel System), compensation and benefits management, professional development, performance management, succession planning, employee relations and retention, AA/EEO compliance
  • Assists supervisors, managers, and directors in resolving complex, sensitive human resources problems
  • Complies with and enforces adherence to federal, state, and local legal requirements and manages compliance with the State personnel system (applicable to State classified employees)
  • Provides day-to-day administration and management of employees handling benefits, compensation, unemployment compensation claims, workers compensation claims, FMLA leave requests and ADA accommodation requests
  • Guides management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; demonstrating highly effective communication skills and championing organization values
  • Manages the administration and further development of the employee performance evaluation system
  • Identifies human resources financial strategies for approval by the AVP
  • Manages daily human resources operations by providing oversight of the human resources department that currently includes 7 human resources professionals

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Public or Business Administration, Organizational Development or a related field
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in human resources management, including demonstrated knowledge and application of: 1) current talent acquisition and retention strategies; 2) human resources management standards and procedures; 3) compensation and benefits assessment and administration; 4) diversity, inclusion and access initiatives; 4) Affirmative Action Plan development and assessment and compliance
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct and relevant experience with the Colorado State personnel system including relevant certifications
  • Experience developing and delivering organization design and/or leadership development initiatives
  • Relevant Human Resources experience in an institution of higher education
  • PHR or SHRM-CP Certification

Total Rewards:
Starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. Anticipated salary range is low $90,000 – 105,000. Mines provides an attractive benefits package that currently includes fully paid health and dental insurance.
