Director of Human Resources, North American Manufacturing

 This position is located in Winamac, Indiana

This position directs and oversees HR initiatives to support the overall vision and strategy of BraunAbility’s North American Manufacturing business.  Partnering closely with business and operations leaders, the Director sets human capital-related priorities and oversees a core team designed to ensure the business is able to attract and retain the best talent, drive business initiatives and optimize employee performance. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops organization strategies by identifying key human resources issues to support the mission and goals of the business, contributing information, analysis and recommendations to business leaders. 
  • Supports business leaders by aligning HR Business Partners to key functions, keeping HR team closely aligned with and able to support HR needs and priorities.
  • Implements HR strategies by establishing functional accountabilities including staffing, employment processing, onboarding, compensation, records management, compliance, and employee relations and retention.  Continuously identify opportunities to minimize administrative and transactional needs to enable a focus across the HR team on more value-added support.
  • Identify and regularly measure and report key HR and talent performance indicators across the business.
  • Drive organizational change and support change initiatives through formal Change Management processes and support; Support efforts designed to advance cultural objectives across the enterprise.
  • Partner with operations leadership to drive continuous improvement and efficiencies.
  • Direct a process of organizational planning that evaluates structure, job design, and manpower forecasting throughout the company.
  • Establish and oversee initiatives designed to heighten employee engagement and communication.
  • Determine and recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by staying abreast of existing and new legislation and advising management on needed actions.
  • Sets strategy for employee compensation cycle and makes recommendations in line with the overall enterprise timing of process.
  • Optimize employee performance by ensuring execution of performance management across the business, consistent with corporate timelines and procedures.
  • Lead talent management exercises with business leaders, ensuring talent identification, succession planning and development activities are a top priority.
  • Accomplishes special project results by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities and setting key milestones to ensure effective delivery.
  • Supports management by providing human resources advice and counsel.
  • Continuously furthers expertise and job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations. 
  • Effectively manages and coaches HR team members and ensures their ongoing development. 
  • Contribute to the development of the wider HR strategy and work closely with Global Human Resource Leadership as well as functional HR leadership to ensure cohesive and coordinated services across the company.
  • Lead the HR aspects for the merger/acquisition due diligence through integration activities related to assigned division

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking / problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, recruitment, organization development, employee relations, safety, employee engagement, and employee development.
  • Exemplary written and spoken communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop HR department staff members.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to the executive management team that provides overall company leadership and direction.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include knowledge of Excel and skills in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • General knowledge of various employment laws and practices and experience working with a corporate employment law attorney.
  • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources recognition and engagement programs and processes.
  • Excellent organizational management skills.


  • Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in Human Resources, business, marketing or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of HR experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Human Resources, including experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • SHRM or HRCI HR certification preferred.
  • Experienced with employment law and compliance on state and federal levels.
