The Employee Relations Specialist supports the mission and long range plan of the university. This position will be required to maintain and promote a positive work environment, foster employee engagement, promote and ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees and minimize potential liability for the University.

Essential Duties and Responsiblites:

  • Manage and conduct investigations of employee misconduct and other inappropriate workplace behavior and policy violations
  • Participate in developing and delivering employee relations training programs including new employee orientation; provide guidance and support for management staff on proper handling of employee relations matters; ensuring compliance; participate in developing and delivering workshops for supervisors and employees on ER matters
  • Research, interpret and recommend application of employment laws, policies, procedures and best practices
  • Coordinate new hire requirements including probationary reviews, staff manual sign off, discrimination and harassment training and Information Security Awareness training
  • Track, monitor and report organizational wide trends in employee relations cases that will support in designing proactive strategies to improve employee relations
  • Administer correspondence for employee relations issues
  • Track completion of probationary reviews and monitor any issues requiring follow up measures. Ensure compliance regarding time-sensitive matters, (e.g. not satisfactorily completing probationary review, separation process, final payments, etc.).
  • Coordinate exit interviews and generate related metrics; provide feedback
  • Review and approve employee disciplinary actions
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Two years of experience in Human Resources with emphasis in Employee Relations
  • Two+ years of experience in conducting internal investigations
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills to effectively communicate in a variety of settings across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
  • Superior problem solving and conflict resolution abilities, solid judgment, and influencing skills
  • Project management skills
  • High level of initiative and attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to manage shifting priorities and workload requirements
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of a HRIS system
  • Experience with administering or involvement with diversity education efforts
  • Datatel experience a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus

Special Skills Or Experience:

Certification as PHR or SPHR in Human Resources desirable but not required.

Two+ years of experience in conducting internal investigations.
