Patience, flexibility, empathy. These are the most important skills when it comes to providing employees with the best human resources experience possible. While we’re looking for an employee relations specialist with at least three years of experience, we know that technical skills—interpretation of HR law, understanding of SAIF’s policies, etc.—can be reinforced with training.

 Your personal attributes, like the ones mentioned above, along with strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, willingness to connect and interact with people at all levels of the company, and the ability to determine cause and effect in an employee’s behavior, are what make an outstanding employee relations specialist.

 This position will also coach supervisors and employees on company policies. In order to do that, you’ll spend a lot of time with our employee handbook—and will need to be skilled in the areas of communication, research, and comprehension.


  • Perform a variety of moderately complex human resources tasks to support policies and programs, which may include employee relations, leave management, HR operations, and training.
  • Provide guidance to managers on human resource programs, policies, and practices to ensure consistent and accurate policy interpretation, to support the resolution of issues, and to develop an understanding of corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to employee inquiries on the application of human resources policies and practices and explain procedures. Communicate with employees to resolve conflicts and act as a mediator in facilitating resolution.
  • Deliver and support the development of training to employees and managers to develop a comprehensive understanding of human resource programs, policies, and practices.
  • Develop and deliver training on people and performance for new supervisors.
  • Research human resources best practices to recommend or support the development of new or updated human resources programs, policies, and practices. Maintain a current knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, and review current policies and practices.
  • Support efforts to continually improve human resources process and promote SAIF as an employer of choice.
  • Respond to external inquiries concerning personnel information based on corporate policy and regulatory requirements.




The following qualifications are recommended:

  • Two or more years of human resources experience demonstrating the skills and abilities to analyze, research, strategically think, problem solve, and communicate human resources policies and practices.
  • This position requires patience, empathy, and the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization with tact, diplomacy, care, and professionalism. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate complex concepts is a must.
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or a related field, or any combination of education and job-related experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the function of the position proficiently.
  • Other combinations of training and experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work
