Job Summary:

The HR business partner (HRBP) role is responsible for aligning HR objectives to business objectives for designated client groups, and developing integrated solutions to achieve them. The HRBP serves as a consultant to leadership on human resources-related issues. The successful HRBP will act as an employee champion and change agent. The HRBP leverages deep knowledge of the business and strong relationships across the HR function to collectively achieve results.



  • Establishes effective routines with business units to maintain open communication, proactively address needs and drive cyclical HR processes.
  • Consults with leaders, providing guidance on HR related topics (workforce and succession planning, compensation, hiring, performance management, development, etc.) and utilizes the collective HR team (COEs and Operations) to achieve results.
  • Contributes to strategy and decision making; willing to challenge prevailing wisdom and propose ideas that lead to better strategic decisions.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies; Uses data and insight to diagnose and resolve issues that impact organizational performance.
  • Serves as an expert on team and talent challenges; works closely with leaders and employees to improve performance, build employee engagement and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Ensures complex employee relations issues are resolved through a partnership with Employee Relations.  Supports (but typically does not lead) investigation and resolution process. 
  • Travels to career schools providing human resources’ business partnership
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with Employee Relations and the legal department as needed/required.
  • Complies with all ECMC Group Policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.





  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in Human Resources, to include supporting multiple sites
  • Ability to travel to the multiple sites up to 50% of the time
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws


  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification
  • Experience working in higher education career schools and or  the student loan industry
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions


  • Strategic orientation, business acumen with proven ability to align people strategies with business goals
  • Consulting, diagnostic and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including influencing and coaching others, especially at the executive levels
  • Personal resilience; ability to rebound quickly from setbacks
  • Comfort leading through ambiguity
  • Able to collaborate effectively across and at all level of the organization, and to focus on delivering solutions through “one HR” team
  • Ability to act as change agent
  • Displays and promotes high standards of ethical conduct and behaviors consistent with organizational and government standards

  • Office:  Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment that requires normal safety precautions (such as in typical office or administrative work).


  • Sedentary work:  Job involves sitting most of the time; walking, lifting, bending, standing etc. may be minimally required


  • Up to 25% of the time


  • Required to work normal hours to successfully perform the job responsibilities
  • Available as needed to provide assistance
  • Frequently subjected to interruptions, multiple calls and inquiries
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate
