HR Generalist

The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) seeks a Human Resources Generalist to administer the daily human resources functions for NAIFA, including benefits administration, recruitment and onboarding, compliance, staff development, performance management, compensation, and process and policy administration. The Human Resources Generalist serves as the primary point of contact for staff inquiries and provides guidance to staff and supervisors related to all human resources functions as appropriate. Assists with the implementation of HR strategy in support of short-term and long-term organizational goals. The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with staff and supervisors to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Advises supervisors related to employee relations and performance management of their staff members.
  • Manages performance review process, including updating forms and generating staff communications about the process and timeline.
  • Develops, organizes and presents training for supervisors and staff regarding HR-related topics.
  • Promotes positive morale through staff recognition, social, and community service events and initiatives.
  • Manages the administration of employee benefits programs, including NAIFA’s self-funded health and dental insurance plans, flexible spending plans, annual open enrollment process, disability insurance plans, life and AD&D insurance plans, COBRA, worker’s compensation, Employee Assistance Program, and 401(k) Savings Plan.
  • Reconciles monthly invoicing for insurance benefit plans.
  • Prepares compliance reporting documents for 401(k) Savings Plan and FSA Non-Discrimination Testing. Ensures required participant notifications are distributed.
  • Manages employee leave situations, including short-term disability, long-term disability, FMLA, and Worker’s Compensation.
  • Analyzes compensation trends and salary data to maintain market salary ranges for all positions.
  • Manages the recruiting process, including posting open positions, reviewing resumes and employment applications, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and conducting reference checks.
  • Promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and customer service as part of the NAIFA culture.
  • Conducts onboarding to integrate new staff members into organizational culture and practices.
  • Drafts the annual HR budget and monitors expenses throughout the fiscal year.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, and new technologies in human resources and talent management areas.
  • Assists with facilities-related tasks, including coding invoices, ordering supplies, and managing building access cards.

 

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of experience in human resources, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience working for an association preferred.
  • SHRM-CP a plus

  • Knowledgeable in human resources-related laws, regulations, and best practices, and commitment to stay abreast of the changing dynamics in the human resources field.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of maturity, discretion, and judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills and ability to interact professionally with individuals from all levels of the Association.
  • Excellent conflict management skills.
  • High level of initiative and follow-through in identifying and anticipating NAIFA’s human resources needs.
  • Ability to professionally receive and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to understand and analyze HR statistics and metrics.
  • Is available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
