The HR generalist performs human resources-related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: benefits, recruiting, labor relations and affirmative action and employment equity programs.


  • Focal person for assisting Human Resources Manager with entire recruitment process.  This includes advertising, reviewing and evaluating applications and resumes, scheduling and conducting interviews, administering evaluations, screening candidates and presentation of Offer Letters.  
  • Being responsible with help from the HR assistant, for all aspects of new hire processing and onboarding, including preparing paperwork for new hires, planning and conducting new employee orientations to educate new employees about company policies and procedures, and in fostering a positive attitude toward company goals.
  • Providing research and advice on creating new policies and modifying or delete existing policies.
  • Processes and administers all leave of absence requests and disability paperwork; medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Monitors employee eligibility for benefits plans. Reviews benefits with employees and processes enrollment, cancellation or changes. Organizes and manages annual open enrollment communications and election process. Maintains and distributes list of new and cancelled employees under each benefit plan. Verifies benefit billing accuracy and processes for payment.
  • Resolve discrepancies with Benefit carriers, payroll and the company. Complete reports for management as requested.
  • Administers COBRA for group health plans.
  • Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
  • Ensures compliance with COBRA guidelines by preparing letters and other paperwork as directed; receives and records COBRA insurance premium payments.
  • Coordinates health, life and disability insurance enrollments and communicates with service providers concerning routine administration of programs.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Overseeing the termination process in conjunction with Human Resources Manager, determination and approval of termination decision, including: preparation of termination paperwork, scheduling and conducting the exit interview(in the absence of the HR manager), notifying employee of COBRA rights, if applicable, preparation of final paycheck, audit and close employee file, and make necessary changes in computer systems.
  • Strive to ensure employee understanding of benefits programs by regularly generating communication and counseling employees/dependents as situations arise. Resolve employee complaints related to health and welfare plans, refer difficult or very complex complaints to manager as needed.
  • Act as a resource for payroll/HR contacts to ensure their understanding and compliance with benefits and HR policies and regulations. Keep management advised of potential problem areas and recommend/implement solutions as appropriate.
  • Ensuring that Company is in compliance with all applicable statutes and regulations governing employees (including without limitation, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Fair Labor Standards Act, OSHA requirements with respect to posters, notices, announcements, and any other matter concerning compliance.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of human resources experience with a history of working in progressively more challenging roles.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral), interpersonal skills, articulate and confident.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Strong organizational abilities and strong desire to provide attention to details. 
  • A true team player who is supportive and willing to aid fellow department members when needed.
  • Solid multi-tasking skills to switch from one project to another, while keeping everything moving forward.
  • Thorough knowledge of various leave management policies such as: FMLA, STD, LTD, and Workers
  • Compensation.
  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with ATS & Kronos a plus.
