The HR generalist is responsible for duties that encompass the entire employee life cycle, including but not limited to recruitment, on-boarding, employee relations and off-boarding. The successful candidate will have experience in and a passion for HR, strong business acumen and the ability to identify critical issues and apply HR expertise to deliver long-term, sustainable solutions.

Essential functions:

Recruitment:

  • Assist with the internal and external recruitment processes to maximize greatest best candidate pool

  • Support the delivery of effective and efficient people services through implementation of recruitment strategy

  • Maintain relationships with employment vendors, universities and other recruitment sources

  • Manage the on-boarding and off-boarding processes including preparation of materials and cross functional information distribution; including working directly

  • Coordinate temporary assignments as requested

Employee Relations:

  • Provide day to day guidance and assistance to employees regarding policies, procedures and other employee matters aligned with URJ policies and values.

  • Assist with day-to-day employee communications

Administration and Compliance:

  • Assist with the proper implementation and execution of HR programs and initiatives

  • Revise and maintain URJ employee handbook policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state and local regulations

  • Stay current on state and federal employment law to inform compliance

Technology, Systems and Reporting:

  • Assists in recruiting, onboarding, benefits, performance management and time and attendance systems

  • Special projects and reporting as required

Other:

  • Plan and execute employee events

  • Manage URJ’s participation in NYU Bronfman Center’s CLIP internship program

Requirements

 

  • Bachelors degree required

  • 3-5 or more years of Human Resource generalist experience

  • Experience with HRIS (experience with ADP WFN a plus)

  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices

  • Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Knowledge and understanding of HR environment and how best practices can be adapted and developed to support company-wide strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously

  • Demonstrated experience with technology including familiarity with database systems and web content management

  • High level of emotional intelligence and ability to understand and honor confidentiality

  • Highly organized and self-motivated
