Summary Description: The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in providing both strategic and tactical human resources support. This position is responsible for ensuring effective day-to-day Human Resource service delivery in the following areas: employee relations, training and development, performance management, HR compliance, recruiting and selection, on-boarding, recordkeeping, and HRIS system administration.

Essential Duties:

  • In consultation with the CAO, partners with staff and management to address employee relations, performance management, and general human resources issues, ensuring timely escalation of any open items;
  • Effectively manages day-to day HR service delivery & business operations;
  • Counsels staff on interpretation and application of relevant HR law, policies, procedures and programs;
  • Works closely with the CAO in the implementation of policies related to human resources and employee development;
  • Supports the CAO in the areas of workforce planning, performance management, and salary planning;
  • Recommends new approaches, corrective actions, and updates to policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the HR department and services performed. Assists with the administration and implementation of the same;
  • Facilitates new hire orientation to ensure team members are effectively assimilated into the organization;
  • Administers and communicates benefit options to employees while serving as a liaison between staff and insurance providers;
  • Interviews, screens and recruits job applicants;
  • Manages various HR programs including, but not limited to, employee recognition, wellness, and capacity building;
  • Conducts exit interviews and maintains database to identify areas of opportunity;
  • Represents the organization for any unemployment claims;
  • May direct and/or serve on project teams focused on continuous improvement initiatives related to recruitment, on-boarding of associates and internal position movements;
  • Oversees the bi-weekly payroll process and serves as a backup when necessary;
  • Consults with staff to appropriately manage and address leave of absence events;
  • Acts as a liaison with third-party vendors;
  • HRIS input and reporting monthly, quarterly and ad hoc metrics and reports;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • 5 years’ minimum previous HR experience;
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Meticulous organizational skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Ability to critically evaluate circumstances, analyze, and problem solve;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Must approach work with an ethical practice respecting complete confidentiality in all situations;
  • Proficient to intermediate Excel, Word and Power Point skills;
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks and priorities and maintain work flow;
  • Ability to follow through on assigned tasks;
  • Ability to input data with reasonable speed and accuracy;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Courteous and pleasant phone manners.


Compensation and Location:

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000, contingent on relevant experience, and it is offered along with a competitive benefits package. The position is based in Washington, DC.
