Job Description:

Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Human Resources Specialist (#00413). The successful candidate will focus on recruitment & selection and classification & compensation activities for approximately 900 faculty and staff positions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process the full cycle recruitment process from job vacancy announcements through the offer: receive and process requests for recruitment; write position vacancy announcements based on position descriptions; post advertisements on various sites; review applications to match experience with specific job-related requirements; provide guidance and assistance to faculty and staff on the recruitment and selection process using effective and efficient communication; ensure appropriate interview and selection process; analyze pay factors to recommend starting salaries; issue offer letters and/or employment contracts
  • Assist with job and compensation analyses, ensuring positions are classified and paid appropriately
  • Assist with compensation surveys and actions
  • Assist with Student Employment as needed
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  • Maintain records and compile reports
  • Provide professional assistance in all human resource functional areas
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Combination of education in human resource management or related field and/or significant experience as a human resource professional
  • Demonstrated expertise in employment and recruitment
  • Working knowledge of the principles and procedures for recruitment and selection
  • Significant experience in human resource procedures, practices, policies and laws
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and EEO/AA laws and immigration principles
  • Ability to work in a very high-paced work environment and have the ability to change work direction at any given time to meet the demands of the office
  • Ability to work within aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Working experience with RMS and PMIS preferred
  • Classification/compensation experience preferred
  • Higher education and/or state experience preferred

Additional Information:

Pay Band 4, hiring range $38,000 - $41,500. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply
