Organization Overview

The Medical Device Innovation Consortium (MDIC) is the first-ever 501(c)3 public-private partnership created with the sole objective of advancing medical device regulatory science for patient benefit. As a membership based organization, MDIC brings together representatives of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), industry, non-profits, and patient organizations to improve the processes for development, assessment, and review of new medical technologies. Our work is unique and complementary to trade associations such as the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) and the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA). Members of MDIC share a vision of providing U.S. patients with timely access to high-quality, safe and effective medical devices. .


Position Overview

MDIC is seeking an HR generalist to join our team as a full-time Human Resources Director. The HR Director is responsible for managing all HR functions for MDIC. The HR Director needs to be a results-oriented leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and a "roll-up your sleeves" attitude, taking ownership of their work and always striving for excellence.  The HR Director has to be able to foster an organizational culture that values its staff.

We are seeking a trustworthy individual with the ability to manage both high-level processes and on-the-ground task-oriented work and who has the interpersonal savvy needed to work collaboratively and effectively, with a wide range of individuals towards a common goal.

As a member of the MDIC team, the individual contributes to the general advancement of the MDIC mission and goals. This position is directed by the President and CEO.


Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Create organization strategic recruitment, selection and retention plans. Direct all employment and recruitment activities, including establishing related policies and procedures. Coordinate equal opportunity programs to achieve diversity goals. Coordinate the onboarding process
  • Oversee compensation plans to ensure regulatory compliance and competitive salary levels with marketplace.
  • Direct employee relations function. Provide coaching and counseling to staff and facilitate conflict resolution. Respond to and recommend course of action relating to legal allegations and claims filed.
  • Evaluate organizational culture and provide recommendations on changes to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
  • Direct performance programs. Work with managers and staff to develop goals and objectives that support organizational strategy, mission and vision.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to management to develop and communicate activities focused on building better working relationships and improving staff morale.
  • Other duties as may be assigned
  • Conduct orientation and training for all employees
  • Implement and manage programs for learning and development and performance management
  • Oversee payroll and benefits administration
  • Keep current and ensure compliance with all EEO, Employment, Benefits, Payroll and Wage-hour Laws.
  • Assist in strategic planning for HR related areas
  • Work to continuously enhance life at MDIC for its staff.
  • Champion innovative programs that drive employee satisfaction and team morale.
  • Provide management coaching

Reporting Relationships

  • The employee will report directly to the MDIC President and CEO
  • Work closely with the MDIC Leadership team.

  • Bachelor's Degree required; with a Certificate (SHRM-CP or PHR) or Master's Degree in HR preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience working as a leader in Human Resources, preferably with experience in a not-for-profit environment and/or organization with seasonal employees
  • Experienced in running payroll, performance review programs, managing benefits and employee training.
  • Experience in handling issues involving high levels of sensitivity, confidentiality and/or legal exposure.

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Proven ability to function at an executive leadership level, while remaining hands-on with carrying out core administrative HR systems and programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of employment/labor laws
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local employment, wage and salary laws and regulations. Ability to interpret and advise on the application of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Computer proficiency in all needed areas of human resources including Microsoft Office, Employee Management systems, ADP, HRMS software platforms and/or standalone HR software for the application and onboarding processes.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and presentational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to get along with diverse personalities. Tactful and mature.
  • Excel at setting priorities and goals and holding staff accountable
  • Ability to motivate production of quality materials/programs within deadlines and simultaneously manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate groups.
  • Innovative and resourceful problem-solver with ability to adapt rapidly to changing situations.
