The Director of Human Resources is a valued strategic partner who ensures IslandWood has the people, structure, and work environment to achieve its current and evolving organizational objectives. The Director administers compensation programs, leads the organization’s recruitment and retention practices as well as programs that promote employee satisfaction and professional growth. This position plays a central role in advancing the organization’s commitment to developing a comprehensive strategy for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Recruitment and Retention

  • Develops strategies to build internal and external talent pipelines. Identifies appropriate and effective external sources for candidates of all levels.
  • Supports hiring managers in sourcing highly qualified candidates that reflect IslandWood’s commitment to hiring and retaining individuals that mirror the communities we serve.
  • Manages the hiring process including new-hire paperwork, background screenings, and employment eligibility.
  • Oversees onboarding process including orientations for all new hires.
  • Partners with leadership team to develop effective staff retention programs that respond to diverse cultural and professional needs.

 Compensation and Benefits

  • Supervises Payroll and Benefits Coordinator.
  • Oversees the compensation program; evaluates the program and practices as a tool for attracting, retaining, and diversifying IslandWood’s staff.
  • Oversees the benefits program including third party vendors, enrollment processes, program evaluation, and cost management.
  • Works closely with the leadership team on strategies for meaningful total compensation packages and staff recognition programs.
  • Evaluates and approves requests regarding compensation and title changes.

 Professional Development and Performance Management

  • Assesses needs and designs training and development programs to support staff and operational needs of IslandWood.
  • Manages the annual performance review process and calendar, providing appropriate documentation, training, and instructions to managers.
  • Trains, advises, and assists supervisory staff regarding performance management.

 Policies and Procedures

  • Monitors compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements personnel policies and procedures.
    • Keeps abreast of developments and regulations in all areas of Human Resources, including compensation, benefits, and recordkeeping (including FLSA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, OSHA, LNI etc.), ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements as well as state and federal laws.

 Qualifications:

       Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7-10 years of broad-based and progressive HR experience.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrate IslandWood's core values that enable teams and individuals to succeed with shared respect and purpose.
  • Support IslandWood’s strategic plan to expand our mission and impact.
  • Experience in working with individuals from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Must pass child safety screening.
  • Must comply with a smoke-free and drug-free workplace.

 

       Desired

  • MSHR or PHR/SPHR certification
