The City of Greensboro is seeking a Director of Human Resources (DHR), who is an excellent communicator, collaborator and strategic thinker, who will be part of the executive team providing leadership and oversight to develop and carry out the goals of the organization. The DHR is tasked with leading the HR staff and cultivate a culture of outstanding customer service and inter-departmental collaboration, while also empowering City departments to make sound and data-driven HR decisions.Human Resources Department and Position Overview: The City of Greensboro operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The City has approximately 3,000 employees working across 20 departments. The new Director of Human Resources will report to an Assistant City Manager and work with a budget of $2.9M. The individual selected for this key role will lead a full-service HR Department of approximately 34 employees who manage compensation, recruitment and selection, benefits, employee relations, learning and development, organizational development, safety and occupational health, and wellness. Given that staff is strong in carrying out the compliance function of HR, the focus of the DHR is to ensure the department is capable of streamlining processes such as recruitment and selection, while enabling department directors to make more efficient and sound HR decisions. The City is not just seeking a sound customer-service approach to HR, but one that is designed around the customer’s needs, while reducing legal liability. Requirements

Qualifications:   A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, master's degree preferred, and 10 years of progressive experience in human resources, which must include time as a director or assistant director. Local government experience, HR certification (PHR, SPHR, IPMA-CP) or eligibility and desire to sit for certification are preferred.
