Human Resources Director

Summary/Objective

The Human Resources Director serves as a key strategic business partner providing direct support to achieve business outcomes to meet strategic and financial goals.   This position is responsible for the overall strategy and administration of the human resources function including compensation, benefits, onboarding/offboarding, employment and affirmative action, performance management, policy implementation, training, employee relations, wellness, and compliance.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Annually review and make recommendations to executive management for improvement of AIAA’s human resources policies, procedures and practices
  2. Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensure AIAA’s compliance with regulatory changes
  3. Communicate changes in personnel policies and procedures and ensure proper compliance is followed
  4. Coordinate the annual review, preparation and administration of AIAA’s performance evaluation and compensation programs
  5. Oversee full staff life cycle hiring process from recruitment through onboarding
  6. Recommend, evaluate and participate in staff training, coaching and development
  7. Develop benefits strategy and subsequent offerings including health and retirement benefits and annually evaluate costs and market comparisons
  8. Work with directors and managers to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters
  9. Evaluate, source and maintain human resource information system that meets personnel information needs and integrates with payroll processing
  10. Consult with outside HR legal counsel as required
  11. Supervise the staff of the human resources department
  12. Participate as liaison with Institute Board of Trustees and Compensation and Benefits Committee including research, analysis and presentations as required.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the Human Resources department and is responsible for their hiring and performance management

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and bookshelves.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. AIAA’s normal work week runs from Monday through Friday and consists of 37.5 hours or 7.5 hours per day.  Normal business hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The time band during which an employee may schedule to begin work is between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The time band during which an employee may schedule to end work is between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Additional information is available in AIAA’s Flextime/Work Hours Policy.  This position may require long hours and weekend work.

 

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of human resource experience or Master’s degree and 8 years of experience; 3-5 years in management including experience working directly with Executive Director/Chief Executive. 

Competency in Microsoft Office 365 tools.


Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree in business, human resources, or psychology preferred.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications/Certifications

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification desirable.
