The Director of Human Resources (HR) will play a critical role in supporting a team of superstars so we can achieve ambitious goals for our scholars. The Human Resources Director will execute human resources activities for all school-based and regional staff by leading employee relations and compensation and benefits activities. Additionally, the HR Director will partner with others to conduct regular payroll reviews and support the development of our region’s HR strategy.

We invite you to serve in the following capacities:

HR Strategy Development (Partner)

  • Partner with the Talent Director to develop KIPP St. Louis’ overall talent strategy

  • Research and identify high leverage employee engagement activities

  • Function as a strategic business partner for schools and departments to increase staff success and sustainability

  • Support plan to attract, develop and retain high quality diverse staff 

  • Other duties as assigned

 Employee Relations (Lead) 

  • Counsel School Leaders and Administrators on employee management and retention practices 

  • Lead case management activities and grievance investigation and resolution processes

  • In partnership with Talent, develop performance management systems and supporting tools 

  • Ensure that KIPP St. Louis complies with all labor laws and applicable legal requirements 

  • Responsible for annual review, update, and distribution of Employee Handbook

  • Provide guidance on appropriate practices, interpretations of policies, procedures, and laws

  • Partner with hiring managers on developing and/or transitioning employees as needed

  • Provide exit interviews; summarize themes and create corrective action plans as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Employee Benefits and Compensation (Lead)

  • Recommend compensation placements for all employees and conduct compensation equity audits

  • Conduct annual benefits review to ensure competitive, cost-effective benefit packages for all staff

  • Manage annual open enrollment; ensure all enrollments are completed accurately and on time

  • Serve as point person for KIPP St. Louis staff for all questions and concerns related to benefits

  • Ensure compliance with Affordable Care Act (ACA) including end of year tax forms

  • Manage Worker’s Compensation claims from receipt of injury report to close of claim

  • Manage short and long term leave requests for all employees; serve as FMLA Administrator

  • Other duties as assigned

Performance Management System (Create)

  • Build and lead cross-functional team responsible for creating  and implementing a performance management system

  • Identify and leverage best practices to create supporting documents, trainings, and tools

  • Create visual anchors for all KSTL sites that reinforce our mission, vision, and values 

  • Other duties as assigned

Payroll Review (Partner)

  • In partnership with our Finance Department, optimize and document key payroll and benefits processes

  • Along with Payroll Administrator, develop and execute a process to ensure timely and accurate wage payments

  • Ensure PTO is recorded for all leaves of absence, including parental leave, extended sick leave, etc.

  • Document and update employee data to reflect the position and/or salary changes

  • Process stipend agreements and document assignment

  • Other duties as assigned

Human Resources Management Activities (Manage and Build Capacity)

  • Lead and build the capacity of HR Manager; create standard operating procedures for all key HR processes

  • Provide training for people managers; build an accountability system that ensures all staff are being developed

  • Review and verify staff credential and certification verifications for the region

  • Ensure accuracy of all HR compliance, information, and records for the region

Requirements:

  • Cultural competence

  • 5 or more years of direct Human Resources experience

  • Prior team management experience

  • Knowledge of Federal and State Labor Laws 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or other related fields

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Proficiency

  • Ability to quickly and effectively build relationships with, motivate, and engage a diverse group of stakeholders

Preferred skills and qualifications include:

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or PHR Certification

  • Entrepreneurial spirit; self-motivated and comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources

  • Prior experience with Employee Relations, Grievance Management, Compensation, and Benefits

  • Experience working in non-profit or education sectors with educationally underserved students

  • Comfort with HR information systems and digital/cloud-based HR tools
