Our client is a highly regarded heavy civil and marine contractor with a rich history of providing turnkey construction solutions to both public and private owners nationwide.  

As the senior most Human Resources leader in the company and member of the Executive Management Team, our candidate will be responsible for planning, developing and directing all human resource activities and functions to include recruiting, compensation, employee relations, performance management, recognition, and culture development – transforming the human resources organization within the company and supporting its growth and expansion initiatives. Responsible for development and integration of human resource programs which are aligned with business strategies. Directs the training and development activities for the company which creates measurable business success.

Primary Responsibilities             

  • Creates and implements action plans for all human resource functions that are aligned with the strategic direction of the company in the areas of performance management, organizational design, recruiting and retention, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and general compliance. Communicates these plans to the team and leadership.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership throughout the company to assess organizational capabilities and performance and learning requirements while driving positive organizational effectiveness and related culture change initiatives.
  • Develop and execute programs and systems to evaluate, measure, and improve employee performance.
  • Assist the leadership team on organization design to ensure organizational efficiency and clarity of roles and responsibilities.
  • Oversee and manage talent acquisition strategies and practices that meet the organization’s business needs.
  • Proven ability to assess, manage, and develop departmental staff and implement training and development programs.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for recruitment, training, performance management, and information systems.
  • Ensures all programs and strategic plans are geared to developing a pool of succession candidates for key positions.
  • Establishes metrics and measures success of HR programs, retention of employees and training applications.
  • Develops, promotes and administers programs for employee reward and recognition.
  • Provides leadership and training for management regarding performance appraisals, mentoring, coaching, and leading.
  • Works with senior leadership to design and develop technical training as it relates to specific job skills and instructional programs.
  • Exhibits vision, mission, values and norms on a daily basis and is a role model and leader in the organization.
  • Facilitates communication among employees and management. Guides managers and employees on employee relations' issues, problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance and litigation avoidance. Assists in resolution of issues and legal charges as needed.
  • Assists with compensation as needed in order to remain competitive.
  • Responsible to ensure the company is in compliance with all government regulations and reporting is completed timely, such as but not limited to ERISA, ADA, FMLA, EEO, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Human Resources Certification (e.g. SHRM or CHRP) is desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Human Resources field with experience in all the various functions, specifically employee development, employee relations, training and development, compensation, and recruiting/retention strategies.
  • Experience working within the construction industry preferred.
  • Strategic thinker with astute business acumen and sophisticated understanding of human resources in the corporate environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize activities.
  • Proven track record of creative and innovative human resources management and problem-solving experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute a course of action consistent with human resource goals.
  • Advanced leadership, teamwork, and organizational development skills.Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in safeguarding company information and in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
