This position is responsible for HR generalist functions primarily for the Saul Centers, Inc. residential division and other properties as required.   These duties include but are not limited to recruiting, training, employee relations, employee engagement, performance management, compliance and compensation.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of the Corporate Human Resources Team to coordinate the full employee life cycle i.e. recruiting, hiring, orientation, training, compensation, etc. primarily for the residential division and other properties as required
  • Oversee the employment process for field positions, including coordination of pre-employment background checks, offer letters, onboarding, orientation, etc.
  • Act as a resource for the interpretation of HR policies by communicating new policies and/or changes to existing ones
  • Collaborate with the corporate residential team/Operations Manager to develop, coordinate and facilitate various trainings for field employees
  • Advise in the resolution of employee relations issues by providing coaching and guidance to management on employee counseling and documentation
  • Assist managers with the annual review process and compensation process, including submission of reviews and compensation recommendations
  • Work with the corporate residential team/Operations Manager to facilitate onboarding programs to effectively integrate new employees
  • Conduct frequent site visits to residential properties
  • Attend stand up meetings at residential properties
  • Plan and host employee events and recognition programs throughout the year to increase engagement
  • Analyze causes and trends in turnover and suggest approaches to drive improvements in employee retention
  • Utilize the Predictive Index tool for field employees using it as both a recruitment, training and management development resource
  • Develop strong relationships with hiring managers, business leaders and HR colleagues
  • Support the corporate HR team with employee relations, talent management and employee engagement through corporate training and development efforts
  • Engage with corporate leadership to develop and implement various programs, initiatives, and policies
  • Actively participate in all employment related activities and engage in cross functional projects


Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge in all generalist areas of HR
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain positive, professional relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to travel within the Washington, D.C. metro area for property visits and meetings
  • Experience communicating with and influencing all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office



  • Minimum 4 years of progressive generalist experience in a human resources position
  • Experience supporting employees at multiple locations is highly preferred
  • Experience in a recruiting position required


Education / Licenses / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR or related field or equivalent experience
  • SHRM-CP or PHR designation preferred
