Responsible for ensuring that the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of human resources plans and programs are realized. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

  • Develops and administers human resources plans and procedures that relate to University employees.
  • Contributes to the development of HR department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Overseeing recruitment efforts for all personnel, including writing and placing job ads
    • Tactically involved in the recruitment process to ensure a continuous applicant pool
    • Ensures constant communication and use of referral program
    • Manages and participates in targeted recruiting initiatives by communicating regularly with the Departments, Colleges and Schools regarding specific recruiting needs
    • Oversees and manages selection, on-boarding and placement process specific to all new employees
    • Creates and revises job descriptions
    • Oversees the review process for all new openings and reclassified positions for review by Human Resources partners and the Position Control Committee.  
  • Develops and conducts training programs for managers to improve recruiting and hiring efficiencies and reduce turnover
  • Oversees the on-boarding process to ensure compliance with University standards
  • Oversees the exit interview process
  • Develops, analyzes and updates the University’s performance management program
  • Supports the University’s employee recognition program
  • Develops, revises, and recommends Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Maintains and revises the University information on policies and procedures
  • Distributes required weekly, monthly reporting
  • Ensures compliance with regard to University required training including Supervisor Training, FERPA, GDPR and other required training
  • Supports benefit communication during annual open enrollment and serve as ongoing liaison with managers and Human Resources
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Oversees FMLA/LOA process
  • Oversees all workers’ compensation claims
  • Ensures OSHA compliance and reporting 
  • Oversees all requests for unemployment claims
  • Facilitates progressive discipline policy and ensures it is executed fairly and consistently
  • Responds to and investigates all allegations of policy violations, including complaints involving Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, the FLSA, the FMLA and wage and hour laws.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in human resources, organizational development, management, psychology or closely related field; Master’s degree preferred

Five to seven years of related and progressively increasing responsibility in Human Resources

PHR or SHRM-CP preferred 

Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in person, with groups and in writing with a wide range of individuals; strong listening skills.
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
Experience managing both small and large-scale projects to completion.
Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of human resources administration including knowledge of federal and state fair employment and labor law practices and regulations.
Demonstrated team orientation and effective collaboration with groups.
Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with a diverse group of individuals.
Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions, without constant supervision and direction. 
Ability to set priorities consistent with expectations and effectively escalate concerns and seek direction when needed.
A strong track record of analytical skills and critical thinking.
Demonstrated skill in report writing from a data base HR system.
Above average software skills using Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point as well as scheduling software, Constant Contact, and various website and forms creation software.
Ability to maintain the highest level of sensitivity and confidentiality in all matters.  Maintains composure in stressful situations with a high degree of excellent customer service. 
Regular and reliable attendance.
