Human Resources Manager

The Vascular Institute of Virginia (VIV) has two advanced outpatient facilities focused on minimally invasive, treatments for a variety of issues. We currently have a unique opportunity for an experienced Human Resources professional to develop and lead our Human Resources department. The Human Resources Manager is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides Human Resources support to our employees and leaders. In this full-time position you will act as an advisor and coach on staff related issues including talent acquisition, employee relations, staff development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and employee engagement. You will act as a resource and advisor for employees for everything from leaves of absence to career development as well as lead HR projects including the on-going introduction or strengthening of HR best practices.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and administers programs, procedures, policies and guidelines to help align VIV’s workforce with the strategic goals of the company.
  • Directs the day to day operations of the Human Resources department and provides work direction as needed.
  • Establishes human resources measurements that support the accomplishment of VIV’s strategic goals and reports on progress towards goals.
  • Develops and monitors HR budget and identifies and implements HR systems as needed
  • Supports organization staff by establishing and overseeing a recruiting, selection, hiring, and onboarding program(s); counseling managers on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing turnover and exit interviews; and recommending changes.
  • Serves as an interviewer for open positions including Search Committees for medical staff.
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource local, state and federal requirements, conducting investigations, maintaining records, and provides guidance in HR practices and policies in alignment with local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Collaborates with leadership team to establish and maintain a total compensation plan, including wage and salary structures, pay policies, and variable pay systems including bonuses and raises. Creates and updates job requirements and descriptions for all positions.
  • Participates in market research to help maintain competitive compensation practices and policies, including salary ranges to help recruit and retain high performing staff.
  • Monitors all pay practices and systems for effectiveness and cost containment.
  • Maintains a successful performance appraisal system that generates equitable review of all employees' requirements regarding performance expectations and job performance.
  • In collaboration with the VIV leadership team, obtains cost-effective, employee-serving benefits; monitors national benefits environment for options and cost savings.
  • Leads the development of benefit orientations and other benefit training.
  • Recommends changes in benefits offered, especially new benefits aimed at employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Determines and recommends employee relations practices and policies necessary to

     support a high level of employee engagement and retention. Keeps leadership team informed of progress towards goals that support VIV’s desired high performance culture.

  • Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; conducting investigations, hearing and resolving complaints, and counseling employees and managers.
  • Manages employee communication and feedback through such avenues as company meetings, employee satisfaction surveys, employee focus groups, one-on-one meetings, etc.
  • Develops and maintains a company-wide training program that addresses training needs including training needs assessment(s), communication skills, technical training, management development, etc.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • A four year degree - BA or BS in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field is required. Master’s Degree in related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of broad (generalist) experience in Human Resources required, with at least 2 years in a health care related environment.
  • Leadership experience in Human Resources as a Senior HR Business Partner, Senior Generalist, or an HR Manager is strongly preferred.
  • Professional Certification strongly preferred - SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and/or SPHR (Senior Professional Human Resources) HRCI.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven strategic, problem-solving, and critical/analytical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of employment & labor law – federal and state statutes/regulations is required.
  • Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to lead and present to a diverse audience as well as act as a change agent
  • Self-motivated and resourceful; able to take initiative, achieve results, analyze outcomes.
  • Excellent multi-tasking, follow-through, and organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office and additional software necessary to perform the position.
  • Broad knowledge of human resources management and organization development best practices.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and have the ability to travel between clinics (Currently Woodbridge and Fredericksburg VA)
