The Walton Family Foundation is seeking a skilled, highly motivated and entrepreneurial human resources professional with solid project management experience to support the people-related initiatives of the foundation. This individual will be responsible for working with the foundation’s People Director on the development and implementation of specific programs related to employee and organizational development. This is a 6 month assignment based in our Washington DC location.

Key initiatives include the following:

  • Professional Development Program – Support the continued development of the foundation’s learning program, including:
    • Facilitate the completion of the program design and framework, including documenting program strategy, planning curriculum, coordinating with internal leaders and SMEs to plan monthly learning events, identifying relevant external learning opportunities, researching best practice and innovative approaches to learning
    • Create a 12 month plan for developing and training leaders/supervisors and a plan for employees
    • Design a strategic learning plan for 2019
    • Create system for tracking and measuring effectiveness of the program 
  • Performance Management – Play a pivotal role in the successful execution of the foundation’s year-end performance evaluation process:
    • Work with people director to devise and timeline and plan for year-end performance evaluations
    • Update and activate review templates in the system; ensure that employees are set up in system correctly
    • Facilitate training on successful performance management principles, goal-setting, and using the online evaluation system 
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Initiative
    • Serve on the DEI staff working group to create a strategic DEI plan
    • Work with people director to develop, implement and monitor internally focused DEI goals and objectives
    • Promote and develop trainings and initiatives that help create and foster an open and inclusive working environment
    • Establish system for measuring and tracking progress toward DEI goals and objectives 
  • Other project and initiative support as needed



  • Bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of related human resources experience; Master’s degree preferred
  • HR certification through SHRM or HRCI
  • Experience working with foundations a huge plus
  • Proven experience developing, implementing and managing high-profile projects
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills; able to distill information in a concise and clear manner
  • Self-starter, driven and highly organized; ability to successfully balance competing priorities
  • Skilled in researching best practice and identifying trends in the field
  • Creative and innovative thinker
  • Proficient technological skills including Microsoft Office, performance management software (Reviewsnap a huge plus), and project management software
