Primary purpose: • Support the western states client group with consistent application and services in the areas of HR policy administration, recruitment, selection, training, compensation, benefits, performance counseling, compliance, employee relations, etc. • Position job title will be assigned, depending on the qualifications, skill sets and experience of the successful candidate. Essential duties and responsibilities: • Ensure effective communication and administration of company policies, procedures, programs, and related issues. • Act as a resource to the general employee population for inquiries on HR policies, benefits, payroll, etc. • Work with client group management to promote and maintain a positive employer/employee relationship, and maintain a union-free status at nonunion locations. • Use effective conflict resolution techniques to solve employee/supervisor issues. • Counsel and influence management in the appropriate documentation and resolution of personnel issues created by policy application or interpretation, compensation practices, benefits, performance issues, EEO, Affirmative Action and disability leave management. • Assist management responsible for union represented facilities in the application and administration of union contracts and agreements, including grievance administration. • Conduct or participate in ethics and other employee investigations, develop final reports and manage solutions to the problems identified. • Research current and potential employee relations problems, opportunities, issues and evaluate impact. • Communicate benefits, compensation and HR policies and procedures to employees and management; make presentations on these and other relevant HR programs, changes and related issues. • Facilitate and conduct training on variety of HR initiatives (Affirmative Action, performance management process, interviewing/selection, harassment/discrimination/prevention, etc.). • Assist management in the employment process as it relates to recruitment, selection and placement of employees. • Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes. • Must maintain strict confidentiality. • Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets, employees, and the general public.
   

Requirements

Minimum requirements: Education: • Bachelor degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field. Experience / Specific Knowledge: • Minimum of five years of experience actively working in a human resources environment as an HR Generalist/ Human Resources Representative. o Experience in counseling and influencing managers and employees on performance guidelines and expectations with minimal assistance. o Experience in conducting various employee investigation situations, writing final reports and managing solutions to the problems identified with minimal assistance. • General understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to the HR function, and ability to quickly adapt to those of Kinder Morgan. • Thorough knowledge and awareness of federal, state and local labor and employment law as it relates to equal employment opportunity, wage and hour, disability leave management and job protection leaves; including but not limited to ADEA, Title VII, ADA, EO11246, NLRA, FLSA, FMLA, CFRA, CAPDL, etc. • Basic to advanced knowledge of payroll, benefits, compensation, etc. plan and practices. • Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve complex and sensitive HR issues/problems. • Familiarity with general payroll administrative procedures including data entry and report writing. • Familiarity with Human Resources Information System and Applicant Tracking System. • Strong customer focus and interaction. Competencies, skills, and abilities: • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for the purpose of word processing, presentations, spreadsheets and information retrieval. • Ability to professionally deliver training presentations using PowerPoint or similar software. • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work; reprioritize on short notice. • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines. • Well-balanced interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communications skills are required. • Must be accountable and take direction from supervisor(s); keep required work schedules, which include regular and predictable job attendance; focus attention on details; follow work rules. • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions. • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction. • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies. . Certification, licenses, registrations: • A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required. • If the employee is subject to license or certification requirements or training as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies or the Company, now or in the future, compliance is required under this job description. Physical demands: • Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time. Working Conditions: • Ability to travel regionally up to 50%, with over-night stays required and occasionally with short notice provided. Travel would include visits to KM sites throughout the states of Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and other locations as required in performing job duties. Must be willing and able to travel as needed. • Must be willing and able to work overtime and extended work hours, as needed. • Majority of the work will be conducted from an office environment. Approximately 30% of work will be on the phone, and 50% on the computer, with the balance of the time requiring the interaction with office staff and outside groups. • Individual will be required to carry a Kinder Morgan mobile phone and must be willing and able to support client groups at all times. • Work productively in an environment with high levels of interruption. Supervisory responsibility: • None Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities: Above the minimum requirement; not required but advantageous in this position: • Professional HR Certification is desired, but not required. • Experience in the application and administration of union contracts and agreements, including grievance administration is an advantage but not required. • Experience with Lawson HR/Benefits/HR Writer modules preferred.
