Primary Purpose:

The Learning & Development Manager is responsible for inspiring and growing the Learning & Development (L&D) function within SoCalGas, working with employees and vendors to design, build and sustain the related infrastructure, programs, processes, systems, and relationships. Establishes strategic and tactical goals for SoCalGas University including employee development, instructional design, web design and the Employee Learning Center, ensuring goals are converted into efficient and effective actions, providing financial plans and controls, securing organizational support of processes, programs and products, seeing the possibilities of "what can be," and inspiring a shared sense of purpose within the L&D, the broader Organizational Effectiveness team and across the company.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Develop, and monitor progress towards, strategic and tactical goals for the L&D function that are focused on helping SoCalGas achieve its business goals and objectives.

  • Manage the L&D function including monitor the budget, oversee vendor management, review current program implementations, develop and monitor metrics and report out on goal attainment.

  • Develop the L&D team; promote and manage interactions among team members, ensure clarity of roles and responsibilities and effective flow of communication. Identify and push for opportunities to elevate beyond status quo. Model the Way through exceptional facilitation skills across various learning platforms.

  • Monitor industry trends and developing issues around training design and facilitation, performance support strategies, learning facility management, and learning technologies.

  • Ensure cross-functional L&D collaboration, communication and partnership across organization.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development/Behavior, Business, Management, or a closely related field required. Post-graduate or Master's Degree preferred. Advanced certification in HR, employee development, performance improvement, coaching or organizational development desired. Five to seven years of experience planning, designing, developing, facilitating and evaluating learning programs using a range of technology. Experience leading/supervising/managing direct reports. Previous experience forecasting and developing budgets desired.

  • Understanding of adult learning drivers and the creative ability to drive effective, sustainable behavior change.

  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and forward-thinking skills coupled with the practical ability to achieve important business results individually and through others.

  • Strong leadership and project management skills. Ability to balance the workload and negotiate within the team as well as with clients on deliverables.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, take initiative, challenge the status quo, and deliver exceptional, consistent results.

  • High degree of interpersonal communication skills for consensus-building, facilitation, negotiation, counseling, leading, interviewing, and influencing.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to integrate different ideas and approaches to come up with creative solutions. Ability to develop, analyze, and report on relevant business and department metrics.

  • Creative and conceptual skills required to grasp a myriad of ideas and business needs and create solutions using theories and concepts.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools and methods for evaluating training needs and effectiveness, including proficiency in analyzing program results using all levels of Kirkpatrick evaluation.

  • Political astuteness. Actively maintains a broad people network. Works effectively across organizational lines with all levels of management on critical, often sensitive issues. Demonstrate high levels of collaboration and strategic partnership skills.

  • Effectively promotes the benefits of learning and development philosophies and methodologies.

  • Passionate commitment to doing what is best for the client and for SoCalGas.

  • Committed to continuous improvement and personal development for self and team.

Physical Requirements:

Required to walk or stand for 2 hours at a time when facilitating groups, meetings or classes. Ability to lift and move boxes and materials up to 20lbs.
