This job manages and coordinates the day to day activities of the Benefits/Retirement Tier 2 (T2) teams. The incumbent provides oversight on customer inquiry responses and escalated service requests and defined/associated functional administration for health and wellness programs, retirement (DB, DC and Executive Deferred Compensation) programs across the enterprise.  Possesses an expert understanding of health, wellness and retirement benefit administration requirements and provides guidance to ensure customer and regulatory requests requirements are met with a high degree of accuracy and reliability.  Provides leadership and direction to the  Benefits and Retirement staff, managing the day-to-day T2 Operations in the HR Service Center including continuous oversight of operational departmental programs to support the team and the department's strategy while managing collaborative relationships with internal and external vendor resources. Continuously coaches staff to the highest levels of performance and motivates the team through the creation of a work environment that contributes to a high performing culture. Provides support for projects to improve systems, programs and processes and identifies and implements process improvements for streamlined efficiencies and cost reductions, and investigates escalated issues, identifies trends and work with teams to resolve trends and issues. Acts as the primary point of contact for reporting needs, including operational and strategic metrics development and reporting.



  • Perform management responsibilities including, but not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity.  Plan, organize, staff, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority.
  • Administer and operationalize the company's benefit and retirement (DC,DC and Exec Deferred Comp) plans across the Enterprise through ongoing communications with internal and external partners, Defined as employees, retirees, vendors, internal Practice Areas (T3), carriers  including oversight of process resolution with current and former employees.
  • Conduct daily oversight and management of the T2 Benefits and Retirement Operational Plans which includes working side by side with the T2 Benefit and Retirement team members to accomplish all deliverables. Act as a working Mgr assisting in handling all T2 Benefits and Retirement critical work, business as usual deliverables and special projects to ensure timely response to customers, peers and external vendors
  • Develop team member capabilities with a focus on reducing overall cost, improving quality and improving delivery time. Assess talent and provide regular, constructive feedback. Coordinate day-to-day activities of team, level resources, assign priorities.
  • Meet customer commitments on-time and within expected budgets. Ensure customer satisfaction levels remain high from both internal staff and external vendors/providers.
  • Regularly assess current state of services and proactively identify areas of opportunity for improvement.  Serve as an escalation point for customer service fulfillment requests.  Drive process design and fulfillment activities for the functional area. Define, develop and deliver operational metrics for the operating performance of the functional areas.  Maintain departmental programs, systems documentation and procedures in a current and detailed manner.
  • Identify and escalate key issues, risks, roadblocks in delivering customer services.  Develop and manage plans related to new projects and business as usual activities including annual enterprise Benefits Open Enrollment.  Coordinate and lead team meetings.  Coordinate activities with T3 Benefits and Retirement Practice Area team members and 3rd party providers.  Provide input to continually improve Tier 1 capability related Benefits/Retirement along with training.  Manage timing of team and regulatory deliverables.
  • Ensure ERISA compliance with Section 125 plans, HIPAA, ACA, 409A and all other federal, state and local laws and regulations governing benefits and retirement plans.  Manage oversight and delivery of legal and regulatory documentation and materials to plan participants.   
  • Other duties as assigned.





  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management



  • 6 years of progressive and relevant experience in lieu of Bachelor's Degree



  • Master's Degree in Human Resource Management





  • 7 - 10 years in Benefits Administration (i.e., 401(k), 403(b) and other Retirement Plans)
  • 3 - 5 years in Management



  • None





  • None


Preferred (one of the following)

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
  • Sr. Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)


To include

  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)



  • Knowledge of ERISA, DOL regulations, 5500 filings
  • Strong written and oral communication, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Strong experience with Non-Qualified Retirement plans (e.g. Deferred Compensation and 457 Plans)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while delivering quality results, managing multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with regards to work processes and employee information
  • Basic project management skills
  • Strong problem solving skills with emphasis on detail
  • Experience leading a team and mentoring others
  • Experience working in a matrix environment
