The Associated Press seeks a dynamic Human Resources Manager to join our team.  This position is based in Washington, DC and supports the Washington, DC bureau and the south region, across all platforms. 

The HR manager is a Business Partner who aligns HR deliverables and consultative services to news strategic initiatives.  This position is a hands-on individual contributor that partners with regional leaders and managers as a resource to assess needs and implement organizational change.   This manager is a coach and champion of initiatives ensuring that we have the best staff performing in appropriate roles, to enable optimal career experience at the Associated Press.  This is demonstrated through but not limited to performance management, learning and development, talent acquisition, and compensation. 

The HR manager demonstrates influence by establishing and maintaining relationships with both leadership and employee base.  The successful candidate will have a proactive approach and exercise sound judgment.  The manager will demonstrate creative conflict resolution, employee relations, labor relations as well as implement HR processes, policies and procedures.

Qualifications

 

The successful candidate must have seven (7+) years human resources experience with a history of progressive experience in a generalist capacity. Labor relations knowledge and experience is mandatory as this is a union environment.  Deep knowledge of employment law is also required.  The candidate must have exceptional communication skills, coupled with strong analytical and consulting skills. Candidate must be able to manage relationships remotely and have previous experience supporting clients and employee base in off-site locations.

This position requires a solid Human Resources Partner who has demonstrable knowledge in HR policies, programs, practices, and has a “roll up the sleeves” execution style.

  • BS/BA or equivalent experience required
  • Full spectrum HR generalist practices required
  • HRIS software experience required
  • Experience with ATS required
  • Labor Relations experience required
  • Media experience a plus
