WhyHotel
Washington, District of Columbia 2002
WHAT IS WHYHOTEL?
WhyHotel is a venture-capital backed, DC-based startup that operates "turn-key, pop-up hotels" in newly built, vacant luxury apartments during their lease-up phaseBlurring the line between hospitality and home, our model provides the value and space of a home-share with the consistency of a luxury hotel. Thanks to WhyHotel, real estate developers now have a new way to leverage vacant units during lease-up and you have a new way to travel.

In addition, our new business arm, Hospitality Living, will deliver the first of its kind ground-up, flexible use buildings, targeted to launch in 2022. For more detail on WhyHotel and our hiring process, please read our Candidate Insider Playbook.

YOUR MISSION
Your mission is to create a  stellar people experience from the moment you onboard a new hire and during every moment they are with us. Your upbeat, positive attitude and desire to help others make your team members (whom you support) happy to come to work. Everything you do ensures that their time at WhyHotel is their all-time favorite work experience. You’ll start off as an individual contributor but quickly build out a team to manage our People Experience/ HR function across the country.

HERE'S WHAT YOU GET TO DO

    • Leverage the data from our employee engagement platform (Culture Amp) to drive meaningful changes across our culture.
    • Provide support to our people managers (both at corporate and in our hotels) to ensure they have all the HR tools they need to support their team.
    • Conduct effective and transparent exit interviews that surface big and little things we can change and then take the bull by the horns and improve anything you can, that makes our workplace even better.
    • You are the guru of our health, dental, voluntary, and 401(k) benefit plans and suggest additional ones we should add. You also get to manage our open enrollment process and ensure that our team members understand the benefit of our benefits (get it?).
    • Identify and partner with legal counsel in each new city where we pop up hotels to ensure we're in 100% compliance at all times. This makes sure every team member has a clean background check + drug test, workplace compliance posters are appropriately hanging in our hotels and all new staff have completed sexual harassment and discrimination training.
    • Based on the real time questions you get, update language in our employee handbook and communicate changes in a way that makes people want to read it and live by it.
    • Create new ways to provide a world-class onboarding experience for our team members all across the country.

Requirements

HERE'S WHO YOU ARE

      • 5+ years of HR Generalist management experience in a high-growth organization.
      • You have experience building out an entire HR function (or significant portions of it) from scratch.
      • You thrive in creating structure where there is none.
      • You have carried the ‘culture torch’ in your previous workplaces and you are committed to wherever you work being one of the best companies to work for nationally.
      • You see ahead of the curve. You have strong and specific examples of how you have anticipated (and fulfilled on!) team members' needs before they could articulate them.
      • You are obsessed with stellar customer service and provide it every day to your teammates (= your in house clients).
      • You strike an awesome balance between the speed and quality of your work.
      • You don’t bury the lead but rather cut to the chase with your compelling written communication and you are able to influence others to act based on the way you write.
      • You are the CEO of your work-streams. You identify what needs to be done and what would make your work and the service you provide better without being told by others.
      • You are awesome about managing up. You always beat your manager to the punch by keeping her updated with the information she needs to do her job effectively.
