Job Description

  • Gathering all confidential and sensitive information for leaves of absence (LOA);
  • Determining employee eligibility under FMLA, workers compensation, and other leave regulations within the timeframes established by NYS or federal law (notice to employee within 5 days for FMLA; submit to Law Department within 8 days for Workers Compensation);
  • Drafting and sending standardized initial and follow-up LOA letters and packets, within the established timeframes;
  • Calendaring and following-up on all required leave documentation to ensure that necessary documents are sent and received on a timely basis;
  • Coordinating and collaborating with EEO/Legal on making reasonable accommodations;
  • Requesting, delivering to employees and department managers payroll and benefits information;
  • Maintaining PeopleSoft and timely audit evidence records to ensure the system is accurate and up-to-date;
  • Keeping managers and other stakeholders aware of employee leave status and timesheet codes;
  • Responding with expert knowledge and compassion to employee and manager inquiries; and
  • Following all NYC Health + Hospitals; NYC, federal and NYS legal policies, procedures, regulations, and laws
  • Making recommendations about job status of employees on leaves including terminations;
  • Coordinating employee relations actions with Labor to follow-up on AWOL statuses;
  • Coordinating with NYCERS to determine the status of pending retirements; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge in FMLA, Workers Compensation and Military Leave.
  • Experience in utilizing and HRIS system such as PeopleSoft.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Baccalaureate Degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university; and,
2. One year experience in one or more of the following: classification and salary administration, employment and testing, training and counseling, employee relations, labor relations and personnel administration, research; or,
3. Graduation from a senior high school and five years of satisfactory experience in personnel administration, of which at least four years must have been at a responsible level of personnel administration, labor relations, employee relations; or,
4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
